I have a mystery button in my 54 vogue, I have tried ipods headphones etc but nothing works in it. If I press the black button on the right of the socket it kills the reception on the radio! Anyone got any ideas before I contact the last owner?

Also if you have any idea where I can get an iphone kit for it as I have no Bluetooth I would be very grateful.

I you sure its not an AUX input fitted to play instead of CD?

Try plugging in then switching Head Unit to CD......

Maybe hit the mystery switch if no success!

Tried the ipod on the cd channel with and without cd's in but no joy. I'll write to the previous owner.

Tried that, she didn't see the funny side.............

have you tried plugging some headphones into it and see if its an audio feed rather than an input?

Maybe its for the passenger to listen to something else? Discovery 4 HSE

Willing to bet it's an FM modulator... You're probably not hearing it because your stereo isn't tuned to the right frequency.

I'd plug an ipod into it, activate it, make sure your ipod is outputting music, and scroll through the FM frequencies one by one on your stereo. Wouldn't be surprised if you pickup on your ipod playing

I'm with Brad on this one, if the button kills the radio reception, it suggests that the input is being switched from the aerial input to a modulator , but modulators I have used in the past basically use a pre-set FM frequency (you normally have the option to change this manually to another 1/2 frequencies on the unit so as not to block out your favourite station) and your normal radio aerial plugs into the modulator which then has a plug which takes the place of the origianl aerial plug so as to carry its own FM signal to your unit. However, the RR doesn't use standard aerials so maybe yours totally switches between itself and the normal aerial, hence no radio signal at all when you press the switch. If this is the case, do as Brad says, plug the ipod in , get it playing a tune and do a search on the radio and most likely the first/only channel you will find is the ipod. Steve

Sorry for not getting back sooner, having a very busy time at work. I think you are right about the ipod and I will have to just sit and go through the process of finding the right fequency. Thanks for your help I'll let you know as soon as I find it.

I tried having the radio on pressing the button on the, plugging in my ipod and running that, then a scanned through all the frequencies on FM, MW, AM etc...........nothing.
I tried the cd, with cartridge in and out.....and then the AUX channel on the TV.

No response from previous owner. The only other thing I can think if is tracing all the wiring to its end and trying to work it out that way. Could be that it's FUBRed. Pronounced foo'barred ( ref: Saving Private Ryan).
I now also have one dim headlight. I suspect that is a dying ECU on the light, if so is this the same part that is on the new mini?

OK Moaning done, This is by far the best car I have ever had by miles and right now I can't think what I'll be replacing it with when the time comes other than with a newer version of this. I suspect I'll add a Rag top DB9 to the garage and keep this for three or four years.
