Rear wishbones

Simple question... Are they a bitch. Thinking of removing the upper/ lower wishbones on the rear to do bush replacement off the vehicle. This would be done on a ramp . Any one done this and thought... Umm not that bad !!!

Do you mean the wishbones or the subframe bushes.

If you mean the subframe, you have a big job on, remove exhaust, disconnect the rear diff and remove propshaft, disconnect brakes & brake lines, disconnect air suspension and airlines, disconnect FBH pump, then drop the whole lot. Would improve access but (depending on the kit you have) won't make getting the bushes out that much easier Smile

See this other howto for the wishbones:

You have to remove them to replace the bushes, no other way I can see. The upper wishbone bushes are TIGHT! .

Bl@@dy Hell... I've bough a hat so that I can take it off to the bloke who has done the job on his drive and recorded it in pictures !! What an epic feat.

Yes, this is the job to which I refer as these are the bushes that are making a noise like two pieces of Styrofoam being rubbed together as the vehicle drives along...... I am now actually crying at the though of undertaking this job.

@ DaveK

Worth trying some WD40 or other lubricant first ? Thumbs Up

As I said in the howto, none of the inner wishbone bushes actually needed changing on inspection, this after 10 years on board, so definitely worth trying lube..... .

Been soaked in WD40. Then I tried a light spray grease all over them, mate has exactly same problem with his 2004 TD6. The WD must wash off when driving in the wet. Noise is really bad on one side but not so bad on the other. Don't like the idea of only changing bushes on one side though.
