I'm asking a question on behalf of a friend. He has a 2006 Range Rover, which has developed an issue. Basically - The radio, GPS and all functions on the touch screen do not work. (Not even the Land Rover Logo). I've checked all the fuses and they are perfect. Front glove box, rear quarter. Basically the display does not power on. No blinking light or anything, nothing works. Also the GPS Changer in the boot has no power also, does not eject.

Where should I start? Is it an earthing problem? thanks in advance. Peter

It could be that the Nav unit has totally failed; if there is a failure in any of the MOST (fibre optic) kit the other stuff will not work as MOST uses daisy chained connections rather than a parallel BUS type.

thanks for your reply. Surely, that however would not stop the GPS Unit from ejecting the CD? This leads me to believe it's a power or grounding issue. Finding information on the topic is extremely difficult.

try a battery reset peter, details are in the wiki..

also test the battery to make sure its at full voltage. ... - .- -.

Hi Stan,
Just attempted same - no luck with Hard Reset and the Battery output is fine. Not one peep out of the infotainment system, the light on the power button does not even flash!

it sounds like a complicated problem...i fear that it might be a dealer visit to determine this cause..

you have checked all the connections in the boot and for water ingress? ... - .- -.

Just realised when one reconnects the battery the Land Rover Display is activated for maybe 2-3 seconds. It really is a strange one. Will keep you all updated when and if it get resolved.

Also, on a related topic this car keeps draining the battery and it seems to be something related to the radio, even when the radio was working. Is there a common fault which causes the radio to drain the battery?

If the nav unit has failed it will break the MOST loop and also prevent the DVD being ejected.

Ideally you want a MOST loop/prism to plug onto the fibre connector. They are on ebay for silly amounts of money but still much cheaper than buying units blind. i'd get one and plug it in to the fibre connectors that plug into the back of the nav unit.

Also check the spare wheel well for moisture. if its damp or looks like it has been and has dried out then the boot seals need replacing to resolve the actual cause of the unit frying. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Two broken RRs, at least this one starts...

Why does everyone think a battery disconnect will fix problems ? if its broken it needs fixing sorry to get angry but fed up with reading crap advice from forum leaders who should know better! Worse things happen at sea! Well thats what swmbo said when WRENS came to sea!!!

The BT module is a common one failing and it indeed breaks the MOST daisy chain. On my 4.2 they just took both fibers out of the connector and taped them together "looking at each other" thereby restoring the loop. That worked.

So what you could do, is for every potential failing item, do the same.

The connector has a little blue tab that you push out, releasing the fiber cables and you can use a straw or shrink sleeve tube to get the cables "facing each other" or "looking each other deep into their eye"

That should allow you to find out which unit, if any, is causing the issues.

On my 4.2 the BT module showed signs of moisture inside that probably did the trick and the replacement module from Wiggs made it work like a charm again. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

BT module is a favorite as its on the top of the pile (& gets wet first!) Does sound like an odd problem though as normally they get stuck on the Land Rover screen.........

+1 for trying a battery reset first (as it resets ECU's in distress which the very best diagnostics kit cannot do!!!)
