United Kingdom 2005 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Zambezi Silver
thoughts / opinions appreciated

i will need to sell the FFRR in the next few months as with a dog and child the car isn't big enough as when the dog is in the bot i lose a lot of the bootspace and as we all know most of the space in a RR is in the back seats.

so the question i have is it worth waiting till november time to sell it or shall i just put it up for sale now? i all be buying a 4x4 probably a merc gl or a land cruiser so i will be getting another 4x4 hence i am not sure if its worth waiting? the miles that i will put on the car in the next few months will be about 1000 and at the mo its done 71k on an 05 plate... its just gone through its MOT no probs.... i will need to get an idea of what its worth from this fine forum but thats another question....

thanks in advance for your replies....

The car isn't big enough so you want to buy a GL? Is a GL bigger than a fattie? Previously..

As you know, Gary is the expert.

Without doubt the 4x4 market is slow in the summer as it's just not on people's minds. At the first sniff of rain, ice and snow many of the great general public run around like headless chickens with the "must have a 4x4" hat on. It's the same for convertibles, try selling one in November.

Generally, I would say wait but as you're looking for another 4x4 there is no benefit. I think I would take the hit in selling yours now as you will also be buying at a good time. On the basis that your new car is going to be newer and more expensive I would say in terms of hard £££s that the deal should be done ASAP.

Yes, its not the price you can achieve for yours right now - its the actual 'cost to change' - its the net difference in-between thats the important number, not the actual price you achieve for selling yours. If you are buying and selling a 4x4 in summer, the likelihood is your cost to change is less than in the winter, even if the actual price you achieve for yours is less than you would expect in winter.

Its the same with dealing with dealers - I've seen many people claim they got a great deal because garage X gave them £500 more on the trade-in but not realising they paid more in the long run. People fixate on the wrong numbers!

But if you want to maximse your numbers always buy convertibles and sell 4x4's in the winter and buy 4x4's and sell convertibles in the summer! Current Fleet:-

My wife has a shed of a T5 V70 Volvo , guess which car the kids get lumped around in day to day ?
KIDS KILL CARS .
Oh you think you will cope with a nice car but just like every one else when you are scooping rapidly cooling puke with your bare hands from the beautifully rusched leather of your GL or what ever, or when you are cutting some one out of their clothes after a code three poo on the tail gate or when the tittle "darling" is anointing the back of the car with milk from their bottle like the Pope on Easter Sunday ask your self why you needed something so fancy and impractical to cary kids around in . Things will get better but after the first two years you are not going to love that car as much as you did Laughing 2008 MY Supercharged

Them GL's are enormous. I walked past one in the office car park the other day and nearly couldn't escape it's gravitational field.

Boot Size Seats up:

M GL 680 litres

RR L322 535 litres

GL has 20% more space.

cheers gary, so as you see boot space considerably larger in the merc for example.... the FFRR has a similar size boot to the 5 series, but the problem is a lot of the space is in the height which isn't that useable, the main space in FFRR is in the the front and back seats.... this is why when we all go skiing for a couple of weeks i have to put a massive top box on and a back box which is a pain in the arse....

so basically not much difference in selling now or waiting as getting another 4x4.... which is pretty much what i thought... gary et all i will post a description later of the cars i can get an idea of what i should ask for it....

cheer guys

In terms of interior, suspect a Discovery is a more practical family choice than a GL (even if it's not quite as big with five seats up).
