South Africa 2016 Range Rover SVAutobiography 5.0 SC V8 Baltic Blue
what would you do

i have the opportunity to buy a 2011 FFRR 5.0 SC with 74500miles at GBP25150 from the same main dealer I bought my FFRR 4.2 SC. Still waiting for dealer to confirm service and repair history; however this dealer normally only buy/trade in cars with FSH.

Firstly do you think this could be a good buy?

Secondly would you consider it seeing that I only have the 4.2SC for about 3 months now and that the 4.2 has less miles on than the 5.0SC.

at that price it is a good buy, but, you have to consider the money difference between what you paid for your 4.2 and this 5.0...
in my case it would be around £10k to change mine to a year younger 5.0 so financially it wouldnt make sense..the 5.0 will have the newer front/back and interior but that isnt worth the extra payout especially as the 4.2 is still a great drive..
your choice though. Thumbs Up ... - .- -.

Also, if you drive like a fanny - what's the point of the 5.0?

Not thinking of anyone in particular here.... Very Happy

An interesting dilemma Confused That does seem a good price despite the high-ish mileage, so definitely worth considering. I had a 4.2 (2006 MY) for a couple a years and recently traded it in for a 5.0 (2010). There is a significant difference in both power and technology between the two models. The 5.0 has all new supercharger with uprated belts and pulley's and puts out roughly 30% more power, whilst being about 7% more fuel efficient due to not revving as high as the 4.2.

All the electronics including switchgear, dashboard, entertainment etc have been upgraded on the 2010 MY onwards and it really shows. Split view TV, DAB radio, Sat Nav on H/D, TFT dash, better camera's...the list goes on!

I suppose it comes down to what sort of deal/price you could get on your 4.2 Rolling Eyes

Really liked the 4.2, but the 5.0 is the proverbial dogs danglies and goes like a stabbed rat! Laughing Laughing (not that the 4.2 doesn't go like a stabbed rat...just a slightly slower one!)

Cheers,

Andy. SDV8 AB MY 2019

It's the direct injection that makes it more efficient.

there's a 5.0 i found in the 'ebay and bargian finds' section which is priced at £28450 and has 89k miles so that you have been offered is a very good price vnitos..
is there a big difference between what you paid for your 4.2 and this one? ... - .- -.

United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Supercharged 4.2 SC V8 Zermatt Silver

First and foremost, this is an emotional purchase. Price isn't the deciding factor, but it's one which tends to stitch the deal together in the head.

If you want the 5.0, then buy it. Good price.

But have you looked around to see what else is available? Have you actually drven the 5.0 to determine if it's worth the extra over your 4.2?

But if the argument is simply 'to buy the best FF SC'', then I suppose you'd better buy it as, price aside, the 5.0 is better on paper than the 4.2. Si. <This is my name.

Scotland 2014 Range Rover Vogue SDV6 Santorini Black

On the basis of the example you quote, tempting though it us, I'd better get to know and enjoy the one already bought.

My considerations would be:

1. What attracted me to the 4.2 that I have (I obviously like the RR because this dilemma is not me contemplating changing to a different make of car)?

2. Do I actually like/ still like this 4.2 that I have or did I buy it as a compromise over something that I really wanted more?

3. Have I yet properly used, benefited from or enjoyed the 4.2?

4. Is money no object/ have I got money to burn (3 months ago, if someone had told me I could get a supercharged Range Rover provided that during the first 3 months ownership I went to the bank, withdrew £8,000 or more and set fire to it, would that optional extra pyrotechnic display have seemed an attractive strand of the ownership experience)?

It's your money, your decision and you're right, people often don't apply logic to car buying. Whatever way you jump it'll be the right choice for you at the given time.

Thumbs Up

New Zealand 2010 Range Rover Autobiography 5.0 SC V8 Galway Green

I found the 5.0 SC quite a bit more "developed" then that 4.2 and I definitely think it is worth 8k GBP. Not that I consider 8k as little money, it is just that it is a further developed car (in my case the time difference is 4 yrs so that may have an effect as well Smile ).

I love the 5.0 and it is much nicer than my older 4.2 and I also loved the 4.2 while I had it.

If you are considering it seriously already, then go for it (provided you can afford it of course). MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!
