I had the 4.4TDV8 engine in my 2011 FFRR remapped by DMS http://www.dmsautomotive.com/index.asp?upid=1&msid=0 last week. I used DMS, despite the fact that they are expensive (£825 + VAT), because they have many years experience in this field and they've successfully remapped 3 other cars for me in the past. According to DMS, their remap increases power from 309hp to 385hp and torque from 516lbft to 594lbft.
I won't say that DMS has turned my FFRR into a fire breathing monster because they haven't but the increase in performance is significant and in my view makes the car much more pleasant to drive. My FFRR now cruises easily at 90-100mph on motorways, speed limits permitting (I have to say that) and mid range acceleration for overtaking is much improved. Throttle response is better too and, subjectively, the engine feels smoother. With my other 3 DMS remapped cars, I also saw an improvement in economy; it's too early to say whether my FFRR will see a similar improvement or not.
All in all, I think the remap has been well worthwile. I was thinking about ordering a new RR Sport or L405 but now I think I might hang on to my L322 for a while longer

I could be wrong but I'm sure I read somewhere that the 8 speed ZF gearbox fitted to the 4.4 TDV8 had a torque rating which only just exceeded the capacity of the engine output of 700Nm (516ibft). Or am I getting confused with the 6 speed ZF box? 4.4 TDV8 Vogue Baltic Blue MY11

Yes Baron you are right Hence they could not fit the 8 speed to the SC...

..but the SC "only" produces 625Nm (461lbft) which being less than the 4.4 TDV8 would put less stress on the ZF 8 speed box, though the SC does produce considerably more HP at 510 verses 313  4.4 TDV8 Vogue Baltic Blue MY11

If the ZF 8 speed gearbox has a max torque rating of 700Nm, how come it's fitted in the Audi A8/Toerag/Cayenne 4.2Tdi, the engines in which have a max torque of 800Nm?

As previously dicussed, I imagine they didn't consider putting the 8 speed in the supercharged L332 as big a priority as in the TDV8, given that economy and CO2 figures are less important where the petrol cars sell well. It's not to do with the power or torque of the engine - the diesel's torque delivery will be much tougher on a gearbox, and the same gearbox is now behind the supercharged V8 in the L405.

The 8 speed in the Range Rover has a manufacturer's torque capacity of 700Nm or 516 lb/ft - there are different versions of the ZF8HP with different torque capacities. The VAG cars use an Aisin and not ZF gearbox in any case.

Perce, the mpg according to the trip computer has improved from about 26mpg to about 28mpg overall which is in line with the mpg improvement I saw in the other cars I've had remapped by DMS. No issues so far with the gearbox and overall I'm very pleased that I had the remap done
