United Kingdom 2004 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Zambezi Silver
Trans failsafe prog message help needed please

Hi, I'm new to the forum and would appreciate some help.

Just bought a 2004 4.4 v8 gouge with 58,000 miles.

Upon starting the car I get the trans failsafe prog message and the car will only engage what I think is 4th gear and won't let me select sport or manual mode.
Just before I get the trans failsafe prog message the p,r,n,d on the dash doesn't illuminate at all.
If I turn the car off and back on again until the p,r,n,d lights stay illuminated everything seems fine until I turn the car off again and the message comes on again and the process starts all over.

Any advice would be great.

Ps. Just tried replacing the gearshift selector to no avail. Could this be a battery issue?

Thanks

Hello Heskey.

Just bought?..if dealer then obviously return if within a reasonable period. If not, then go to the Wiki link above and look for battery disconnect procedure.

Fully charge the battery and then reconnect and see what happens. GONE 2010 Facelifted 3.6 TDV8 - Stornoway Grey + 22" Overfinch Olympus

Thanks for that.

Yes purchased from a dealer 2 weeks ago. He mentioned that the battery was flat and he jumped it using a booster pack.

Battery is on charge as we speak. Thanks for the help.

Keep the suggestions coming guys.

Thanks

Then call them now take it straight back (if practical) or get them to recover...don't tinker as they could say you have done something to it to avoid there LEGAL responsibilities...don't drop yourself in it! Thumbs Up GONE 2010 Facelifted 3.6 TDV8 - Stornoway Grey + 22" Overfinch Olympus

i agree with paul..start with a fully charged battery and go from there....

.....and, when refitting the battery make sure you turn the steering wheel fully left then fully right.. ... - .- -.
