Tint film removal ?

The new motor has some rather nasty tints (to my eye anyhow . . ).

Has anybody DIY'ed the removal of these before ? I've seen a couple of YouTube vids, but would like to hear of the experience of others if poss . . .

The current ones fitted are a kind of champagne/beige hue reminiscent of a Cinzano Bianco advert. And I don't have a Burt Reynolds 'tash !

They gotta go . . .

Thumbs Up Where do you go after one of these . . . ?

I seem to remember a year or so ago someone tried this and posted pictures. I am sure the passenger side window was left in a bit of a state after removal... Maybe the 'tache is the way to go ! Previously..

I took some tints off a Discovery.
Pulled the film off and used warm water to remove the adhesive then polished the windows with meths.

the peeps that do tints will take yours off professionally ..obviously you will have to pay but for the hassle doing yourself it could be worth it.. ... - .- -.

Thanks chaps - I gather the film is the easy bit - it's the glue that's the "sticky" part !

Anybody know if the "glue" is universal to all fitters ? - and if so, what is it ?

Thumbs Up Where do you go after one of these . . . ?

Seriously, never done it but heard stories and seen pics. I'd take Stan's advice.

Use a hair dryer to soften it 1st and pull off at 180 degrees if possible, clean excess adhesive off with alcohol or surgical spirit, you can use meths as well but it stains your teeth! Very Happy

Get a cheap handheld garment steamer. Steam about 10cm at a time, then pull tinting off. Use isopropyl alcohol to remove any remnant adhesive. 2003 TD6 HSE, Zambezi Silver, Navy Trim.

guys i cant stress enough, DO NOT JUST PEEL THE TINTS OFF.

you can on the front and rear doors but the rear window and rear quarter glasses must be heated up fairly hot with hair dryer so the adhesive is soft otherwise you run the risk of peeling off the heated window element backing and the heated glass will no longer work fully. i've been there and done it so please learn from my mistake.

happy to help.

Took mine off using a small hand hold clothes steamer last week . Very hot day and car had been in the sun all day . Peeled VERY slowly and all the glue came off with them

Good tip, mardz - might look at that.

Took the rear window tint off on a v.hot day as it was really getting on my t*ts . . . came off dead easy without fetching the window heater. It did, however, leave the glue. I've taken that off with some spray stuff from Halfrauds.

The glue is the root of all evil Evil or Very Mad

Thumbs Up Where do you go after one of these . . . ?
