i happened to mention to Craig about loads of FF's at BCA blackbushe on my last visit to the market there..some were pretty tasty looking..

seems like you could get a bargain at one of these auctions, thats if you dont get carried away with the bidding... ... - .- -.

Don't forget there are hammer fees to pay too.

You can get a bargain but equally there are also some real mooses there too though......

There was a 2007 TDV8 with 85k and every panel had significant damage. Whilst it was battered it also had FSH so probably just been a workhorse.

I bought my TD6 from BCA on a total whim. It was far from perfect but I knew that when I bought it. Essentially it was a straight car, 1 owner from new who had simply part exchanged it for one of the last of run Westminsters..... 2006 4.2 SC

The buyer fee drops the more vehicles you buy at BCA. Starts to drop at 3+ Vehicles. Buy 3 very low price motors, sell them on and then start buying decent motors at a lower buyers fee. Very Happy Travelling around in circles again.

I love the way that seller takes pics of cars in the auction... Then lists them on eblag and the general public still bid on them Rolling Eyes

Shocking... Don't know how they get away with it for so long Rolling Eyes

I'm not sure the eBay seller is getting away with anything. I've chatted to this trader many times before (I didn't realise he had won this SC on the day as I purely focused on the hammer price) he is very clearly listing the cars he sells as "spares or repair". He is also a very nice chap who says that if you win and don't want the car for any reason when you turn up then you can just walk, no pressure, no obligation. He said that the only things that really pi Censored es him off is people who bid, win and don't show. You cant say fairer than that, can you?!

Look at the eBay feedback, there are lots of people who have decided not to go through with past transactions as the general public really don't understand just how much prep your average auction car needs. He buys around 100 to 150 cars from the auction every week so his auction fees will be minimal. His business model is all about volume, pile 'em high and sell 'em cheap. The reality is that he sells lots of cars with a tiny margin.

If I were to buy the same car from the auction as a retail punter, my auction fees would be £500+ I do appreciate that the auction companies have to keep the regular traders happy and if I'm giving them no volume why should they give me a preferential rate?

So in this case, I could bid on the car, win it, test drive it etc and if anything about it doesn't stack I could walk. Could I do that at the auction? No.

If I had won this car at BCA it would have cost me £6,500 with hammer fees.

If I bought it through this trader, I can drive it first. Will it be less than £6,500? Let's see!

I would buy from this guy, no problem. He's buying some serious volume so has a reasonable idea of what he's buying. His hammer fees are tiny and his margins are slim. You can drive the car before you part with your cash so I don't get why anyone could anyone have a problem with that..... 2006 4.2 SC

It will probably sell for £7k now I've said that! Rolling with laughter

I'm incidentally not suggesting anyone bids on this particular SC. It's well used and would have the purists here in a right tizz! Thumbs Up But I do think he has an interesting business model where you can pick up an auction car for less than buying it direct, the problem is (as I said) that I don't think the general public realise just how much prepping these traders do when retailing a car and he does no prepping at all (which he is honest about).

He also bought a Disco 3 V8 on the same day at BCA. Really clean car and according to the service book, has just been serviced which could either mean it's just had a stamp in the book or that it's had the "body off" 100k service and all the belts done. That's the joy of auctions I guess! 2006 4.2 SC

OK, so he made good profit on the D3 V8 he bought at auction but he lost money on the FF SC. I guess he won't be the first!

So if I'd bought this SC at the auction it would have cost me £6,000 + £471 BCA fees = £6,471.

Or I could buy it from him on eBay at £5,918. I can test drive, take a mechanic, have an inspection and if I don't like it I can simply walk away.....

It will be interesting to see if it's relisted. If it is, it means the buyer didn't go ahead / didn't turn up etc.

I fully appreciate that this one's a bit rare; he's there to make money and this is one of the losses but I still know which source I would rather buy from!

Someone has just bought a leggy but cheap car! Thumbs Up 2006 4.2 SC
