Does using a high quality diesel make a difference to the performance of my RR? A taxi man told me the other evening that lower grade diesel wears out fuel pumps etc and is less efficient - horse or true?

Its all in the additives buy SHELL or BP

i've never had any problems with supermarket fuel..

Its not you you have to worry about though Stan its long term effects on the poor old Range.

I have been told the same. I have an audi A4 for running around the country and had a problem with the injectors. Took it to Audi and they asked where i filled up. So i said it was Asda Morrisons Tecsco etc. The tech said that i needed proper fuel from Texaco or shell he said fill up 1 in 3 tanks with the good stuff.
As Gaz said it must be additives. I only put Texaco in the FF

as facts stand its only one persons opinion against another's, yes we can quote one web page or a mechanics opinion page saying supermarket fuel is worse in additives ,and then another web page etc saying its got all the necessary additives...
at the end of the day if you want to pay more for your fuel and have a feel good factor then go for it..

Living In a county wth two oil refineries and having worked in one. seeing all different petrol tankers comming out of both refineries I don't belive to much when it comes to different garages with different additives unless they are added at the pumps that is.

Okay, diesel was what the OP was about...

My wife goes mad at me for not using Tesco petrol and accuring clubcard points.

I religiously put in Shell Vpower Nitro+

09.12.13 - she sneaked in a full tank of Tesco unleaded @£114 (that's about the first time supermarket fuel has been used since she got it).

Yesterday, I put a full tank of Vpower Nitro+ @£122.50

I use the so called premium fuel for 2 reasons: "Scaremongering" re knackering the car and claims of improved performance.

It's might well be a load of rubbish though!

I've only ever had issues with Tesco fuel, and then only the once. Sainsbury's and Asda are fine. I don't use Morrisons as it's too far away. But, going the other way from home I have Esso at the same price. That's the preferred option for me.

My closest is a texaco which is pretty expensive as it is a small garage, other than that it is the shell at burton services, occasionally it gets a tank of supermarket, however the 3p difference per litre is offset by the fact i have to drive an extra 8 miles to get there.....

Every 3rd tank is a tank of vpower or other top quality derv.

Not sure on the whole extra additives in branded fuel vs supermarket, but as tesco dont have their own refineries....... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

5 years worth of Tesco diesel in my TD6, never missed a beat.

Once tried Shell as it was supposed to be better, improve mpg etc. but found no difference.

I do add the odd tin of fuel injector cleaner @ once a year but that's about it.

If I was Tescos and sold you blunt razors, mouldy carrots, flat batteries or bug infested chicken I would go out of business, same must apply to fuel, they just couldn't get away with it, and lets face it most cars run on supermarket fuel (well all of mine do, and that could be most of them)  .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember

I'm going to try the one in three plan just to see. I'll report back at the end of January with a verdict. It's not that my RR runs poorly its just that I think that there may be something in the additives argument with regard to offering better engine protection. I'm a bit p'd off at having to replace two fuel pumps at (circa) 112k miles.
