Craig
I hope you're having great time.
If your looking for a rolex then i would go for a Submariner or a GMT. Over here they are between 3.5k - 7.5k
if you can find a Pepsi dial GET IT as they are getting rare as rocking horse sh Censored it over here.
There are a few on the bay.

Just make sure its real. Thumbs Up

Gentlemen, thank you for all your sound advice... I was really trying to work out weather there was a big saving buying from the US... Was not thinking of buying while I was here but just noticed prices starting around the $5000 seamed relatively keen com paired to UK prices for similar watches...

Was shown 007's 196something watch worn by Sean Connery for one of the Bond films... Cool!!! And a 1920's oblong faced Rolex which was beautiful, very classy & a lot of money...

I may never buy one (but suspect I will one day) it's just one of those nice personal thing that can be passed on one day Thumbs Up

Quite happy with my Armani Ceramica for now (as it matches my piano wood in the FF) Laughing Thumbs Up

Does anyone know anything about Rolex pocket watches? My father in law has one in his display cabinet - no idea what model and doesn't work. It's been in there for the last 17 years untouched

If you're are looking at vintage rolex, contact Jason @ sweeping hand. He only ever has really nice pieces. The vintage rolex market can be a minefield with lots of watches having incorrect parts, over polished cases etc etc

Craig,

Avoid the African Guys selling from brief cases and Chinatown if you want a genuine one.

If you just want the look you can get a pretty decent fake from a few places in Chinatown for between $100 & $200 which will fool 95% of people and you don't have to worry about damaging or losing it or resale if you choose something you like but others might not. I have a couple of genuine expensive watches and some decent replicas and most of the time I wear a replica for work etc... Only obviously fake if I wear gold and diamond encrusted.

if heading out of NYC some of the pawnshops can have good deals on used watches but you need to know what you are looking at. There is a difference between knowing your sh!t and knowing you're sh!t

I once bought one of those watches to give to a friend as a laugh. It cost $10. The dials on the little mini dials didn't actually go round - they were just stuck on. Laughing
