Newbie asking advice on buying

Well Peeps, I've at long last decided to go for a Rangy, rather than an X5 or similar. I rather fancy a vogue 2007 or later.

My question is: "Given that I'm a dodo when it comes to working on cars, would you advise me to buy from a stealer, or private and then go to a stealer for maintenance?" I see that there seems to be no shortage of vehicles on Ebay, usually from traders. Is it advisable to buy from them, given warrenty issues on newer vehicles?

You all might be interested to know that 'Parkers' and 'What Car' price guides differ by several thousand pounds for identical models 2006 onwards.

From a newbies point of view, the 2007 has a different interior i believe, where the gear stick is and the dash is slightly different, maybe the seats and the sound system too.

If you're buying private, make sure it has full history and try not to go over anything that has 12,000 miles per year (i.e an 07 is 3 years old, so 12,000 x 3 = 36,000 is pretty decent) If you get higher mileage there is chance of problems ahead.

Buying from a dealer, you will be paying maybe an extra £5,000 - Look in the autotrader or ebay Smile

Higher mileage does not necessarily mean worse. Mine generally get chopped around 72,000 miles - high for a V8 I know Twisted Evil

They get full servicing on time, and nothing is ever skimped. Most failures are sorted under warranty anyway - like my 2006 G/Box - so the new owner got a g/box with about 9000 miles on it Rolling with laughter He also got it for a song Big Cry Land Rover Addict

Thanks for the knowledge gents, much appreciated.

I think I might go for one which is ex demo from the dealer, mainly for peace of mind. I've had lease cars for the last 30 years so am not too sure how to open the bonnet, never mind fiddle with anything inside! Embarassed
