To my mind, the diesel BMW unit is the most reliable unit fitted to the L322. They are well proven across the BMW models as well, though thankfully it doesn't have the dreaded swirl flaps fitted in the rr. Main reason I chose it over a petrol. Less to go wrong - some may argue, prob whilst leaning against a petrol pump.

TD6 is very reliable but the GM box is more likely to need a rebuild post 120k. |

I've only had my '03 L322 for 4 months and clocked up 5,000 odd miles in her to date...but I must add I drive the living daylights out of it..both on its own and with a trailer. The BMW M57 is an excellent unit and good for hundreds of thousands of miles. The GM transmission is actually pretty decent....it's the torque converter that isn't man enough for the job. The air suspension, calipers, suspension bushes, electronics etc are wear and tear items....no better or worse than any other German car I ever owned. I actually rate these cars as pretty tough...but it is important to have a good independent workshop who these cars inside out and can keep them performing without charging the heart out of you. 2008 Range Rover TDV8 435,000kms

They are solid cars and as long as you look after them they will last you a lifetime.

Mine 2011 has 128,000 and still going strong. No issues at all, as long as the maintenance has been done thoroughly it should be fine. But suspension is a thing to worry about. Current Cars -

Sorry to butt in on someone else's thread: Is there a scary big service bill at any particular point? I know on th discovery there is a big service at 105k miles - is it the same on tdv8?
