12 N & S to 13 pin Euro electrics conversion

I have the twin electrics fitted - I only recently saw the 13 pin Euro system close up a few weeks ago and was impressed at how much better it is, so I decided to switch over to that.

However, I wanted to keep the 12 N socket as I also occasionally borrow a trailer with that connection.

After much pondering of alternatives, what I decided to do was keep the original electrics and add a new 13 pin socket so that I have every option covered.

I bought a decent (Maypole) socket, some cable and an adapter plate and set to work. My original plan was to run the new cable into the boot and tap into the existing connections there, but all good plans change.....

I needed to take off the 12N to mount the adapter plate, but the screws were so corroded I broke it in the process - so add a new 12N socket to the list. So what I then did is soldered the ends of the existing and new cables together, screwed them into the 12n socket and filled it with silicone. I then tapped into the 12s cables and soldered the new connections and mounted it all back up.

The 12N cabling was easy, all the same colours - the 12S used non standard colours, but pretty easy to work out - 2 earths, a live and a switched live, the last one is the reverse light.

All in all, fairly straight forward Thumbs Up

This may have been slightly less hassle.......

Then just swap over to 13 pin take off 12n and 12s and use the adaptor for the trailer when needed.

They are only 7 pin - I need the reverse light wired up - I have a boat trailer that will only reverse when the light is on (stops it rolling down a slip road)
