Obscure Thoughts

after spotting this I got to thinking...

If ours are the "full fat" Range Rovers, is the sport a "semi skimmed" , and the evoque a "skimmed" offering? Tym

If it sticks, force it. If it breaks, it needs replacing anyway.

I think you are right - to a point, but have a read of a related discussion, and the resulting "can of worms"...,,,,, Laughing

That will teach me about not reading an entire forum before posting Rolling with laughter

Someone's already make the semi skimmed link... Big Cry

But, I suppose the end to the dispute should be that if the originator says the L405 is FF [urlhttp://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/post232525.html#232525 in this post[/url] ] then that should be enough for anyone! Bow down Bow down Bow down Tym

We only got FFRR because JLR left us sort of nameless when 'Range Rover' started being used on other models. Range Rover Sport, ok. Range Rover Evoque, ok. But we're Range Rover ????

L405 is a FFRR for the same reason the L332 is. The Classic and the P38 never needed the term because there weren't any other Range Rovers during their reign. However, they fit the definition so I'd say they qualify.

Why not call the Evoque "Freelander Sport", the Sport "Discovery Sport" and the proper Range Rover just "Range Rover"?

I understand the Evoque was changed to Range Rover at the very last minute as a marketing ploy to gain from the rr's popularity.

Now Land Rover are pushing the Range Rover as a marque in its own right, though they seem to be calling most of the forthcoming models "Discovery......" something or other....... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Bow down Yes!

Discovery owners are now going to have the same problem. I wonder what their solution with be.

Pretty soon, "Range Rover" and "Discovery" are going to provide as much info as, "I drive a Toyota," which covers everything from the Corolla to the Land Cruiser and LFA.

There was a plan to separate the brands at one point, a bit like when RR Classic was launched you had the choice of Series 2A for utilitarian or RR Classic for a more luxurious version. That was it back then, Poverty Spec or Posh Spec.

Fast forward 40 odd years and it's much the same with 3 flavours.
Defender, Freelander or Discovery
Evoque, Sport or Full-Fat.

Not like for like comparable but 3 choices in each line up to suit varying needs and tastes. Good marketing tactics; make the most possible out of the brand. I'd do the same TBH.
