Alternator woes

On way home last night could hear a noise like the blower fan was on and a burning smell so I thought the worst and loads of dough, pulled on drive and the rumbling was deafening and smell all plastic/wire burn smell so opened bonnet and noticed smoke out alternator Sad left off all night I case of a fire hooked back up and got louder on way to my pals garage to look at he heard me coming a mile off and new what it was straight away, as by chance he had a brand new valeo one sitting in his store he got for his six months ago so £100 for it and £40 to fit well chuffed god knows how much main dealer crooks charge for these, a good Independant will save you loads all the time unless you like giving cash away Wink Thumbs Up _____________________________________________________

Just noted the £1200 water cooled alternator Shocked

Our 2007 SC has recently experienced battery drain. I asked for the battery and alternator to be replaced under LR warranty. They replaced the battery under warranty and say the alternator is fine (the replaced battery was only replaced 10 months earlier though).

What's the cost of the alternator for the 07 SC please?

Thanks

It probably wont be as expensive as the BMW one if its the Jaguar engine.

The water cooled one was fitted to the 7 series BMW's because the engineers took off the impeller to quieten down the alternator, then had to water cool it because of the high heat output, hence the expense!

Fitted a water cooled alternator to mine , late last year , after the original seized solid and destroyed the belt .Original Bosch but without the Land Rover name on the box cost £300. Quite a straight forward job ! Bow down
