Removing HK amp

..as in - how the heck do you do it??

My XQK000030 looks like its the victim of water ingress. Front connect various shades of oxidised copper.

Been trying to clean the contacts up, and thought this would be easier if I took it out. Undid the two 5/16 bolts at the top that holds it to the plate, but still couldn't lift it out. I presume there's something at the bottom holding it onto the plate and I have to remove the plate first - how do I get it out??? Tym

If it sticks, force it. If it breaks, it needs replacing anyway.

It's not screwed or bolted at the bottom, but I remember it slotting in somewhere.

I take it you have removed the black plastic tray thing under the carpet with 3 nuts holding it down ?

You will have access to the bottom of it then.

I removed the luggage tie down shackle to get to it easily.

We are talking the BM54 radio unit with the power amps inside, Or do you mean the dsp unit, nearer the back which fastens in differently ? 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Just had a quick search for your part number and it's the dsp unit.

Not removed that myself. Imagine you'll be better taking the plastic tray out for better access and having a look.

Have you downloaded RAVE Which is the workshop manual ? 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Sorry, was typing while you posted.

Yes, that's the dsp or digital sound processor unit.

Tends to get called an amp, and it's called that in the parts lists, but the power amps are inside the silver radio module at the side of it.

Not got access to my pc at the moment, so can't access rave for the instructions I'm afraid.

If you remove the plastic tray under the boot floor carpet you see it much better....... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Here is a pic from another thread, be aware it details how to remove the BM54 radio unit, which is at the side of the dsp, but it will give you a start and shows the plastic tray I'm on about ;

Wow - Thank you so much for your help. I used that as a starting point and found 86.50.36 which seems to deal with the power amplifier removal which looks to be in a similar location to my dsp. Between these - I should be able to do it now. Thanks.

Can I check if the DSP is goosed completely? I#m wondering about cleaning up the contacts and trying it again.

Suppose if I can open it up and see if there's damage inside... Tym

Rave will call the dsp the amp, so that's exactly what you need to do.

I'd be more concerned to ensure you don't still have a leak. Take it the boot floor is now dry and the spare wheel well does not have any water in it ?

If you need more info on leaks have a search for water ingress and water shredder, the shredder being a fix land rover did, which equates to a plastic bag behind the units.

It could be goosed, cleaning it up may work.

Not sure how you can test it though. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

If I got one from a BMW with the same part number, will it need recoding or should it work our of the box? Tym

It should work fine. I've swapped radio modules without an issue, can't see the dsp being any different.

Can you borrow one to try without having to buy another unit ? 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Ah, not quite as straightforward to remove as the radio module then !

As the instructions say, make sure the sat nav unit is fully powered off before you disconnect it, ie red light off and disk not spinning.

That's why you wait after removing the ignition key. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Ah... must admit I didn't *check* as such when I was checking the connections, but I'm sure that i'd gone straight into the boot from the car being parked a while. I *should* be ok! Smile

Must admit, I've noticed the SatNav still being powered on when I've looked in there before and was rather concerned. Glad to know it's normal behavior.

Going to see if I can get it out and clean it up inside before I buy a new one. Tym

What an adventure today has been! Got the DSP out - piece of cake if you follow the instructions in rave...

Took top and bottom panels off and it's bone dry inside...

I did notice before that one of the pins is missing

Middle pin right hand side.

Tried to coerce a new pin type thing in but it wouldn't have it... so... I soldered a wire onto the block terminal on the circuit board and then soldered the other end to the wire that *should* have connected to the broken pin.

JOB DONE!!!! I now have total sound, DSP on my screen and the sat nav talks to me.

Just saved £300!!! Tym
