I had the pleasure of driving the L322 5.0 SC for a week in the UK (Heathrow to Folkestone and back), Holland, Germany and France (la Defense). The worst car park was the Valet park at T3 (took me 5 goes to get out and I'm used to tight parking a FFRR) and that is where I (or the valet park guys) scratched to offside bumper corner most likely (didn't check it before I took it out).

Anyway, I find the FFRR easy to move around tight spaces/towns etc. like you see in Europe. The driving position is much better than on most if not all other cars (we have RAV4 as our other car in MY and i strongly prefer the FFRR driving position).

I haven't driven the L405 yet but did notice the reduced visibility compared to the L322. Having driven some other big cars (GMC Vandura 2500 high top conversion), I'm used to getting big lumps of steel in tight places (Dutch car parks). The L322 is by far the best car to do this, with the rear view camera and PDC being a great help.

For me the L322 is still king of the hill when it comes to 4x4 driveability in town and on the roads. Plan to see how easy they are offroad once I get mine to Malaysia Apparently offroading is a big thing here  MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

I live on the edge of the cotswolds (where the FF is most at home) and struggle somewhat driving around some of the local towns & villages (like Tetbury for instance) where lots of the back streets are so very tight

Teach me for saying how easy everything is - I only went and kerbed a wheel going through a width restricted barrier today. Aargh

My only problem in tight underground car parks is the front door length and width of door card sometimes stops me getting out at all!

I have had various 4x4 since I passed my test 24 years ago and I must say the FFRR has been like most other 4x4s I have owned (apart from the luxury) when driving in the countryside where I live. I think 4x4s are the best when it comes to city driving with its elevated view, road presence but where the 4.4 FFRR wins over all 4x4s I have driven and owned is throttle response, acceleration and handling. I regularly take and pick my daughter from uni in central London and it's like whacky races but I have the advantage that I can see what's happening up ahead and react in plenty of time. The Ride home is sweet at night set the cruise and eat the miles up. FFRR is the most complete car I have owned to date.

I completely agree with S33MAF. During my last week Euro road trip, I did a lot of night time and early morning driving and it is absolutely brilliant for that.

The seating position also helped me a lot on Easter Monday in Germany (it was a work trip to Hamburg). I could see what was happening in front and behind me a lot earlier than the "normal" cars (there was another 06-09 looking FFRR TDV8 sitting the same traffic jams as me). I would start slowing down a lot earlier as I saw the traffic jam build up (a lot of accidents that day including a Mini with front left fender crushed that was facing the wrong way on the emergency lane and that had happened less than a minute before I got there as I saw the traffic jam start in the distance). Also when an ambulance came up I saw it way way back in the distance and moved to the extreme left (only a while later the other cars realized why and followed me). The view is absolutely the best I have had in any car ever driven also because I don't have tints (other than the slight light green tint) on this one.

I don't think the L405 has this great view and I don't remember it ever being this good in any other 4x4s nor my big GMC Van (forward good rear bad).

As for the tighter stuff, not had a lot of experience in the 5.0 but plenty of experience in Nigerian traffic in Lagos and I have fought my way through very very tight spots many times  MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

so consensus is that the l322 is good in traffic and fairly easy to park and the l405 not so good on both..

It is interesting how the OP asks for our view related to his L405 article and we all (at least the ones responding) conclude that he may be right on the 405 and then we all go on to say the 322 is better

The L405 is slightly longer and wider but it is not materially different to the L322. I do not notice much difference at all size wise while driving. When parking I think the cameras and sensors are a little better than on the old one which helps. To be honest both L322 and L405 are too big to park in most city car parks without the risk of a door ding unless you can manage to find a space on its own which is rare. I tend to park on the roadside rather than risk the multi stories in town.
