France 2004 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Java Black
ENGINE OIL

hi everyone.

living in southern france has its very good points but no so good is the high cost of spares and parts for the range rover etc. i dont know how they get away with it but its not uncommon to be over double the price than the uk

one very expensive item is engine oil. i have paid in the past 250e for a engine oil change with around 200e just for the oil.

so i have a td6, it does no heavy milage and is used only at the weekend in general. perhaps ave 30miles a weekend.

i want to see if it is worth considering paying for the oil to be sent over from the uk ? despite the expensive shipping costs im sure it would still be a lot cheaper

can anyone suggest a suitable oil considering the little milage the car does ::!!

bob

Hi Bob, you may get lots of views and opinions on the subject of car engine oil. Alas much of the said opinion will be based on personal choice, brand loyalty, hearsay and most worryingly paranoia that if you don’t spend a king’s ransom on oil your car engine will blow up or fall apart...........

My view which is just a view but based my own research and many years of trouble free self service oil changes is just check the ACEA rating for your vehicle and match it to the oil you buy.

Your TD6 requires ACEA A3/B3 which is quoted on RAVE. The quoted RAVE API ratings have been superseded to SN/CF.

The last oil change I did cost me £25. I bought 2 x 5lt of Triple QX 5w40 rated at ACEA A3/B3/B4 SN/CF from a garage in Pevensey for £20 and the oil filter for £5 online.

This is how cheap you could get oil for if you choose and even with shipping cost to France makes it viable, hope this helps.............

Have you had a look at opie oils. Lots of different oils and service kits, but make sure you get the correct spec oil for the td6, when i used to have cars with the td6 i recall it used to be a bmw long life (04 i think) spec but looking in the wiki it should be a fully synth acea a3/b3 spec.

Plenty of choices on opie from £50 - £100 for 9 litres plus shipping. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
