It was a cheapskate decision, but unless you're constantly doing 130-60 on the motorway I'd be surprised if you'd ever notice the difference in day-to-day driving.

Well i went from Brembo's on the 4.2SC to the crap ones on the TDV8 and i could tell the difference braking on a daily basis without travelling at 130mph .... ====================================

Are my Brembos crap (I have a TDV8) they seem OK. I only asked about depreciation now I'm getting paranoid again and my threads been hijacked to discuss brakes - doh! Geoff

How exactly?

As above, if the brakes can get to the tyres' limit of grip in a single stop you won't see a noticeable difference in retardation or stopping distance. Physics is physics.

Pedal feel or effort? Modulation?

I just found that the Brembo's had a better bite to them , and although the TDV8 normal brakes may be okay i found them to be wanting when braking possibly more pedal push required ( And this was on new front disc's and pads on the TDV8 ).

Whether it was down to caliper size , brake torque of the braking system i don't know , but i do know the SC stopped and slowed better than what i have now .

Sorry Geoff , will see if stan can clean this up Thumbs Up ====================================

Feel and response to the pedal can make a big difference to driving impressions, but I bet if you did a 70-0 stop in both there'd barely be a measurable difference.

Anyway, I'm sure everyone can agree that the big Brembos are best.

Anybody who has driven a 5.0 SC or a 4.4 Tdv8 with the 6 pot Brembo's will know the difference, its as simple as that.

It doesn't come down to locking the wheels up and letting the ABS take over - a lot of it is about repeated hard brakeing, repeated use, useing an engine up to its performance limits and not experiencing brake fade with a 3 ton vehicle being pushed.

Brake fade is a bloody nightmare - if you have experienced it its a very humbling experience

One hard stop doesn't cut it, it's repeated use where the difference becomes significantly apparent, with the larger brakes winning hands down.

Exactly - the benefit of big brakes is resistance to fade (overheating pads and/or fluid) via better heat transfer and thermal capacity. All they do is change kinetic energy into thermal energy.

Well i drive all three variants on a weekly basis if not daily! And i personally think the non Brembo'd TDV8 brakes lack both feel and performance... Simples Wink
