Your map must be full of a lot of very surprised Mexicans who have just found Alaska where they're excepting Bala California to be. Mr. Green

I deal with a lot of Americans and they really do believe that the world consists only of America...They haven't a clue of what happens outside their own country, in fact they haven't a clue there is anything outside their own country...Sad but true Shocked

Spend a lot of time in America and have been asked questions like:

What language do you speak in England?
Do you have money like us?
Did you drive here on that new tunnel / bridge?
Do you have food like we do?
Do you know Harry Potter? I really want to meet him.
Have you met the Queen?

And comments like:

You are the first real life Englander I have met, I have only ever met other ones playing games online.
When asked to guess which part I was from, I was given the answer "Amsterdam"
Wasn't that film about the English Wimbledon winner great, such a great story (not talking about the Scottish winner here but the film from the mid 2000's)

They have no idea what you are talking about if you don't replace the "t" in the middle of word with a "d", i.e. water becomes wader, city becomes cidi etc.... They also have no idea what a jacket potato, tomato or aluminium are if not pronounced their way. There is a difference between knowing your sh!t and knowing you're sh!t

True Story!

I was travelling to the office one morning (I work in Paris) and was on the Eurostar from Victoria, anyway, girls were sitting at the table that I was also on, they were all blonde and all from California, first time abroad and going to Paris.

So we set off out of Victoria, slowly (as the Eurostar then ran on the 3rd rail and was speed limited), one of the girls started chatting and asked how long it was to Paris, 2 and 3/4 hours says I.

Conversation then went..

Girl, 'Oh when do we go underground then'?

Me, 'not for another hour yet'

Girl,'Really? Then it isnt a tunnel all the way from London to Paris?'

Me, 'No, only about 20 minutes in the tunnel, it runs under the English Channel'

Girl,'What, under the water?'

Me, 'Yes'

Girl,'Cool! Will we see any fish?'

Fast forward to the Tunnel entrance and the fire doors come across.......

Girl, 'Hey what are those doors?'

Me, 'They are watertight doors in case of any leaks' :D

I work with a lot of Americans too. In the main they are fine and I think that the majority of Americans who have no exposure to life outside USA are pretty clueless on what happens outside their own state never mind the country - unless they are at war and then they all become experts on that given location Rolling Eyes

The guys I work with are all generally very good and see the 'every day american' as not that bright too, they mock themselves a lot saying "you english guys have done well to speak our language" Whistle

I think it's who you work with, speak to or deal with....what I do agree with is that mainly they are clueless beyond the coastline.....and if one sentence does annoy me it's "so hows things in europe"....because we're next door to Portugal, Italy and Denmark Yawn Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

I was on a conference call several years back trying to get a Yank to understand that there are timezones other than "Eastern", or "Mountain" etc and his response was:
"Well you need to understand that 75% of Americans don't even have a passport" with the inference being they don't even consider timezones, so..........
I replied:
"You say that like it's a bad thing"

Needless to say it took a good while to sink in. Wink

Most Americans are/were/related to BRITAIN....Most of them in one way or another Thumbs Up

They truly do not understand that THE UK is there Motherland! Twisted Evil

The flag of the USA originally had a UK UNION FLAG instead of the stars, the stripes represent the original BRITISH COLONIES(13 of them,Florida came later) Thumbs Up If you have nothing nice to say,say nothing at all.
