pcv worth changing?? all seems fine 2003 4,4

Hi all, will be getting the last jobs [at the moment lol] done next month, gonna cheat and let my local indie do it, coz im too busy with my bikes at the moment, it will be going in for him to have the joys of changing the rocker gaskets, and what we think is a blow off the exhaust manifold gasket, car runs fine, doesn't smoke or anything, the pcv pipework under the engine cover has been changed at some point,[couple of years ago according to receipt] but was wondering whilst it was in weather it was worth getting the pcv valve cleaned out too?

If the PCV hoses are intact then they don't need replacing. The PCV Valve shouldn't need replacing or any service really, that being said I have seen a couple of examples where the innards have failed.

I'd be interested to know how much the job turns out to be for the valve cover gaskets as mine are weeping a bit...

I've just ordered the replacement PCV valve for mine as I also had the rocker covers leaking oil which is usually the first place they start leaking if the PCV valve isn't doing what it should. I've done the rockers so now it's the turn of the PCV.

Worth a watch as it goes through the replacement of the PCV and issues it causes:
Part 1:
Part 2:

They recommend changing the PCV every 70k miles as a service item because if it fails and is left it can destroy the engine due to possible rapid oil loss. It's only a £35 item so not worth messing around cleaning it.
If your PCV has been changed then it shouldn't need doing for a while but it's also worth checking the oil separator cyclone too and the pipework.
From personal experience of other BMW engines with similar cyclones the rubber pipework rots due to the oil fumes. The pipework is only a few pounds but looks to be a bit of pain to get too on the M62, still better to replace it while in there.
