landrover v porsche reliability

Richard Hammond has a page in our local newspaper motoring section.
Telling all that his new £104000 Porsche is off road at present.
Been instructed by Porsche NOT to drive at all as the engine will need to be replaced.
Problem, bolts inside engine coming loose causing massive damage and fire.
Maybe Land/Range Rovers aren't so bad after all.

cheers

Jim A.

His GT3 is a stunner. Porsche have said they are fitting brand new engines to all of the GT3's that have been sold.
That is how to deal with a problem, don't fob the customer off, tell them what the fault is and then deal with it decisively.
Well done Porsche. Previously..

Well said. ^

I don't know about this particular issue, but the way in which problems are dealt with can have a much more lasting impact that the actual problem.

At least Land Rover and Porsche don't behave like GM. "We have a problem. Let's just ignore it and hope it goes away." Whistle (GM ignition issue which the ipad doesn't seem to let me paste here.)

To be fair, Jaguar had problems with bore liners and replaced them. Porsche had lots of problems with 3.4 litre engines in the 996 and didn't replace them - and some customers had very large bills.

They've made less than 1000 GT3's so it's not a juge issue recalling them, especially as the impact (car on fire) is so high.
