Dealing with annoying neighbours - sniper rifle required...

I have a particular neighbour who takes it upon himself to rev his motorbike engine at 6am every morning for about 15 mins before speeding off to work. He then returns for lunch and does the same thing before turning it off and the same again after starting it before leaving and the same thing when he comes home at the end of the day.

I am at my wits end with it as I can't sleep when he is doing it and as I don't really have a particularly stable shift pattern I find it difficult to avoid sleeping at the times he is revving it.

My only solution is the rifle, not necessarily to shoot him (offers are appreciatively received though) but to take the bike out. You know through the engine block like in the movies or hit the fuel tank and watch it blow!

Feel free to discuss... 06MY 4.4 V8 Autobiography Cairns Blue with Navy & Parchment Interior

If your neighbour is approachable, talk..... If that doesn't work / isn't possible, most Council websites have a standard letter template (Leeds city council website does if yours does not) regarding statutory nuisance that you could send direct before reporting the matter.

Or you could be a chicken like my dad and send an anonymous letter from a "concerned neighbour" telling him that you are "worried that he could get in trouble about the noise", and you don't want that to happen Whistle

It stopped my dads neighbour immediately (dog barking noise) and allowed them to still have a positive relationship as he didn't know who'd written / typed it. Thumbs Up

Just a thought. Its not an easy one

Ah neighbours I remember them, we had a pita one who just parked his car and visitors did the same on the shared driveway between the houses, talked to him a few times and it just went over his head.
Another time we where having an extension built on the house, it meant that scaffold had to go on the drive way, all was ok till the day to start.....' if you pay me Ill let you have the scaffold up' Censored

So on that day on war was declared....but talk is first port of call. Just don't declare noisy neighbours to the council as you will have all sort of problem later......my old ones did that when we where rebuilding the LR 90, fixing the roll cage meant welding and grinding.....they got someone out to check up on what I was doing, short of it was nothing they could do as it was between 9am and 5pm.

So when the old chassis need to be broken up.....I waited for my neighbours to come back from shopping Rolling with laughter Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

I now have noisy neighbours....they go Baa Baa and Moo Moo Thumbs Up and a cockerel that likes waking up early Laughing Laughing If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

If the FF cant be fixed......buy a Land Cruiser!

If the LC cant be fixed..............................................BUY a horse !!

I had a similar issue a while ago, neighbour would go out at random times and start his Harley style bike up and rev the guts out of it for 5 mins, switch it off then go back indoors, sometimes 3-4 times a day - not being a biker I wouldn't know if there was a genuine reason for it other than 'Hey everyone, listen to this, isnt it cool?'

Surely revving an engine from cold is never a good idea? Or does it not matter with bike engines?

Reminds me of this South Park episode

I'm going to take the sensible and cowards approach first...

1). as mentioned above write an anonymous letter expressing concerns, if this doesn't work :-
2). Speak to him :-
3). Group approach by neighbours :-
4). I am sure you can make a lot of noise at inappropriate times too - just to get the message across - failing that...
5). Do you have a nail gun?

Difficult one.

Some years back the village where we live (we are about 50m away from the local pub), I was working away in Canada and my wife was at home, we were getting a load of noise from the pub, lock-ins, people leaving at 2 and 3am, shouting, revving engines etc, anyway, on one of my rotations home I had a quiet word with the landlord (who was new - the previous chap was great) and explained the situation, well, that was it! We had a P38 at the time, wife woke up at 3am one morning and was watching some yobbos attempting to throw a wheelie bin through the car window, until the security lights came on and they scarpered! We got blokes Censored ing on the door step, all sorts of crap (well, not on the doorstep anyway!), until the Sunday morning when the landlord stuffed his Subara Impreza Turbo into our front wall and it caught fire!
Plod turned up and he was as Censored ed as a fart, got arrested then the brewery chucked him out!!

I'd have a quiet word with him, and if that doesnt work call the Environmental Health people, noise abatement and so on!

As a biker, there's no reason to do this apart from to annoy people and make yourself look like a tw@.

I must be a terrible neighbour. I do loads of DIY, I have motorcycles (I don't rev them on the driveway though), I have supermodels screaming my name through the night, and I have a drum kit. Embarassed

In my defence, they can't hear my drum kit as it's in my S&M room, and I try and be considerate with the other noises. So far only one set of neighbours hate me, but that's because I'm a foreigner, and I'd like to think the others would let me know if they were disturbed - because it's important to me they're not.

I would take the sneaky approach. I would contact the council and make a complaint . Surely the are laws regarding noises at certain times of the day and night. I have a guy down the road a bit like that but he was knocked off his bike recently and hes been quiet since Whistle Present :2008 TDV8 HSE
