Wheelarch Rust - Is it back?

Hi,

The rusting rear arches were bodyshop repainted. Below is a before picture and also a picture taken the other week when I noticed minor surface 'imperfections' on the recently re-painted arches. The 2 pictures are of the same arch.

Is there anyway of knowing if this is returning rust or whether its just paint finish imperfection?

Please/thanks

Had to post text, then edit whilst adding pics.. Not proficient enough with iPad and didn't expect such a quick response time Wink you might not be able to see imperfections I'm talking about on second picture anyway!

To be honest, it does not look like they have prepped the rusty panel correctly before painting... Worryingly it might come straight back through come the winter... Rolling Eyes

Thanks Craig. Do you mean because of the little dust like specs under the finish (if so, that was what I was wondering, is it less well prep'd and finished or are the specs actually the rust started coming back now)?

The car is at the MD getting the new door re-done this week due to things including a scruffy paint finish to the bottom internal edge so, I'll send the 2 pictures to them and query it Embarassed

Cheers

a while ago i noticed that both mine were rusting, one all the way round and the other half way round. so i did mine myself. just rubbed down with coarse oxide paper, all the rust and paint off, and brush zinc coated the metal, hand primed them with a brush, a couple of coats, then smothed when dry with fine paper, masked up surrounding areas, a quick puff over with a can of primer, and then a couple of coats of land rover aerosol can of matching colour and then a few light coats of the laquer, after re masking to avoid a paint 'step' when all bone dry, i then T-cutted the minor step on the beginning of the curve to the side etc. looks great still. apart from a few small areas under the bonnet, on the chassis legs, i cant find any other rust. and i dont have the built in 'land rover lifetime under body protection', ie oil leaking everywhere! glad i caught mine before it crept round and flaked the sides of the arch.

Only plucked up the courage to ask the MD Service Manager to please look at this query today due to being so embarrassed at the amount of issues and queries around the car and/ or the workmanship. Have said that if they're satisfied the original rust has simply not been painted over or are satisfied that the imperfections are not early return of the rust, I can live with the aesthetic imperfections with the paint finish. MD has replied to say they will have a look at the arches whilst car with them...

After they have fixed it if they need to, get some of the rubbers to cover the area up and prevent more damage.

Have a search on here there a post with mjdronfield and i discussing it after i saw them on a freelander. Squeeze a bit of vaseline in the rubber as you fit it, which will also keep out the moisture. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Warranty repair repaired

The rear arches were repaired and re-painted the other week when the car went into the MD for MOT & Service.

What a difference with the very good, smooth finish this time compared to the lumpy/nobbly finish that was left first time round. Looks like a proper job this time.

Only one issue is... they only painted half of each of the rear arches ie. the above picture visible metal at the part of the arch that follows the shape of the rear door [shut]. Thud

The remaining half of our SC arches are/ always have been covered by a protective rubber strip that simply slides on and off allowing full access to the metal. Funny thing is they painted the entirety of both arches last time (not very well though hence re-work).

Baffling but have better things to do than go back to them with it again.

My glass is half full Wink Thumbs Up

They sound like a right joke to be blunt! If they can't get the wheel arches painted right (not once but twice) it would be the last time they touched my car I'm afraid!

What else might they treat with disregard... Rolling Eyes Evil or Very Mad
