Heavy industry was dead in the UK long before Thatcher arrived. Manufacturing is a different matter - the UK manufactures far more in value terms than ever before.

Interesting that the Halewood cars don't appear to be as problematic.

It's all very well berating JLR over the 'problems' they are having with the new models of FFRR, BabyFF and RRS, but what are these problems.
With the exception of 'knocking suspension' reported by a few people, I haven't heard of any other problems.

Maybe someone can enlighten us all with an up-to-date list?

One point I will make though, is that some of these problems may not lie with JLR, but rather with the parts supplied by other companies.

Interestingly, we're all quick to overlook the recent news that GM have had to recall 1.5 MILLION vehicles over defects (some of which have apparently been lethal)...
or Toyota's recalling of over 100,000 cars for potential sticking accelerators...
or Porsche GT3's that no one can drive, in case they burst into flames!!

As has been said, we now live in a world where we take 'luxury' and 'refinement' for granted when it comes to our cars. But as we now live in a cutting edge, 'latest gadget' world, getting things right-first-time is becoming even more difficult and expensive.

Big heavy steel engines that were very week and Censored on fuel.

Don't forget poor old Aston Martin who had to recall cars due to cheap chinese knock-off components in the accelerator pedals ...

My 10p worth its managing expectations, when you have forked out for a new car you expect it to be perfect whatever it is Dacia to Land rover at the lower end you may expect some niggles however a manufacturer who sells a premium product must meet the expectations of the client.
After reading on various forums over the years and owning most models Land rover have a perceived poor customer service and respond badly to obvious quality faults. (Had the sales manager at Stratstone toe to toe telling me the handbrake not an issue on the disco 3 as the recovery truck arrived with 2 on)
The development vehicles did not have the faults reported by customers otherwise they would never have got to production.
Landrover spec the parts to suppliers who then bid, a number of these suppliers will again outsource usually to the lowest bidder (re britparts and their quality bits)
This is where Landrovers quality control falls down because if you are building 1000 + vehicles a day there is not time to check every part and a brave man is going to stop the line by rejecting a delivery because like most manufacturers they will have no stock to fall back on.
I do agree with the comments about beta testing which makes things worse for Landrover as expectations are so high. Mine was a blue one! Smile

Agreed. My grandfather was an auto mechanic. I remember he didn't like those 'stupid, new-fangled Beetles' as they required he buy a whole new set of metric tools to work on them. Shocked Think, how many things have ever gone wrong on your FFRR that were also stock equipment on a Series One? Heck, a 'transmission fault, reduce engine performance' FFRR drives better than a Series One.

Sorry, I just don't get patriotism - last refuge of a scoundrel and all that. Good luck to Mr Tata, he took a risk because he seemed to believe in the company and it's paying off. I think he's the best owner JLR have ever had.

Well said. Absolutely my opinion as well.
