I always thought that valet parking was a stupid idea.

My favourite quote:

"Of course, I'm aware that the valet is technically a separate company. But so is, say, the meat vendor. If I had an issue with the steak, would the restaurant tell me to direct my complaint to their meat supplier?" 2003 TD6 HSE, Zambezi Silver, Navy Trim.

My last valet parking experience was pre-FFRR... Whistle
Valet: "Good evening, sir." He opens my car door for me.
Me: "Good evening. My car's a standard. Can you drve a standard?"
Valet: "Oh. I've never seen that before, but I'm sure it won't be a problem, sir."
Me: "Where do you want ME to park the car?"

Now, I know standard transmissions aren't as popular here as in Euroland, but when ITS YOUR JOB...

No regrets parking for myself. And yes, I kept the keys. Thumbs Up

Standard = manual ?

If so, why do you call it a standard when most cars are automatic? Surely it should be non-standard?

What a great article Jarrahjack, thanks for sharing. Love this kind of sour humor.

when I go down to the merc dealer nearby, an eastern European guy pops up and asks for the keys to park it while I fetch my parts, ok, he has a shirt on, with a badge.. I can buy shirts online, and a fake name badge. and wait in a carpark, and chose my next joyride.
what are the insurance companies going to say...

Moved to Off Topic? So in the one of the most auto websites there is an article about an L322 getting damaged and the saga that ensued, and that in not good enough for the General section.

Kurt, you must remember, ENGLISH DOESNT MAKE SENSE! Mr. Green

I didn't realize that was an Americanism. Shocked I think it comes from the fact that cars are ALL sold with some kind of transmission. The 'standard' one is a manual one, and the 'optional' one, for another $1-2K, is an automatic one. That's back in the day of 3-speed automatics, and 4-5-speed manuals. With flappy paddles and 'automatic-manuals, it's just going to get more and more confusing! Shocked

To get more off topic, a friend let me try his Series II 88. That was non-synchro and VERY manual! I think my 1-2 shifts took about 30 s as I didn't want to break anything. Very Happy It was fun, but definitely NOT a daily driver thing.
