L405 problem threads

looking at changing to a late L322 SC or a L405 in a couple of months time.
i was looking at the L405 threads.
it is quite shocking the number of basic build quality issues owners are having and the poor reception JLR are offering.
i really do like the L045 but it seems to have too many teething issues. 2011 4.4 TdV8 Nara Bronze

Looks like 20k and mine for a much later 322, SWMBO said the 405 was too big anyway - not that she ever drives them Rolling with laughter Geoff

Re: L405 problem threads

To be fair, not too many L405 owners nave the time to come on a forum and tell everyone how happy they are with their £100k + purchase! They are all too busy earning the sort of money needed to pay for such a car... Hence you here a lot of the downsides Whistle Whistle Whistle

Thumbs Up

Was talking to my dealer yesterday who was saying they have their hands full working on L405's at the moment. So much so he says they have the impression it is still a prototype!

There has always been the running joke that Land Rover Beta Test on their first owners. Not sure how much of a joke it is though. On the realistic side, for a car company they are not THAT big and yet they try to innovate on every level so without the bank balance of Merc or others I guess they cannot afford the lengthy development times to iron out every wrinkle, so some get through.

I have noticed that Land Rover get an unfair rep for reliability compared to other makes with problems. Probably a hang over form the past. I guess if you look on Land Rover as a small(er) maker it is sometimes easier to understand where these issues come from. One comment would be I guess that it is not acceptable for a £100,000 car to have any faults but then if they took an extra couple of years of development in each model you might be looking at £200,000 per car!!

Just my rambling thoughts. 2011 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 TDV8

It's interesting to note that there is always a downer on the British car manufacturers, but at least LR don't have problems like this (not yet at least)..

Remember Jezza ribbing Hammond on Top Gear last week about his GT3? Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

Also look at the Toyota recalls of the past few years Shocked Shocked

Most of the problems that the L405 are having are minor by comparison. Mr. Green

Ok, to balance the feedback. Mine has done 22k miles and as a very early car had the issues with the front suspension knocking. I will say that I had great service from the dealer and the LR regional technical manager to fix it, I was involved all through the process. The only other issue was with a split turbo hose which was also dealt with very quickly. Otherwise everything works as it did when it came out of the factory and there are no rattles or squeaks despite me giving it a hard time.

The problem with forum posts is that generally they are used by owners experiencing problems. As a life long FFRR fan maybe I am biased but my friend has had two dreadful experiences in a row with Audi cars.
