DRL's - Scary business . . .

Just returned from taking jnr to Scouts up the (unlit) A6 from Chatsworth to Bakewell to be met on a bend by a new Volvo displaying ONLY it's DRL's . . . Shocked
So, not only was it showing very little projected light to the front, the driver also presumably didn't realise there were no lights on the dash ? Crikey . . .
It sailed past into the darkness - no lights at the rear.
Ironic it was a Volvo, I thought as they were the first manufacturer to introduce reduced power lights for daytime.
It also reminded me of the dangers of running automatic headlights in daytime when its foggy.

The EU & manufacturers can't take into account the brain dead human behind the wheel, can they !

Thumbs Up Where do you go after one of these . . . ?

They used to, Stan. The driver had the option to put the lights into this mode - I used to run a V70 T5 (sorely missed) on them all the time.
The EU finished that common sense approach when they legislated for DRL's Rolling Eyes Where do you go after one of these . . . ?

I think this is an increasingly common occurrence.

A lot of new cars that I've driven have the instrument lights on all the time. This was once an indication your lights were on and I think this fools the uninitiated, especially at dusk and, ironically, when there's the greatest chance statistically of an accident. Si. <This is my name.

My XC90 ran front and rear at all times, it's a dealer 'option' to have the lighting set to a more traditional UK style ! Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

We followed an idiot on the M54 last Sunday night with NO lights on whatsoever. Both I, and about 20 other people travelling in both directions tried flashing him, I even pulled in front of him and turned my lights on and off, but he was totally oblivious Twisted Evil

Darwin evolution needed here - but unfortunately it's not usually themselves they kill, just some poor unsuspecting person going about his lawful business. Confused

I fail to see how anyone who is not blind can't tell that they are driving with no lights on when it is dark Twisted Evil 2006 (56 Reg) 4.4 V8 Vogue In Bonatti Grey (Gorgeous!!)

Unfortunately I've also seen many FFRR and SSRR drivers switch on just the "angel halo" lights at night rather than the usual headlights....

I'm assuming it is an "image" thing but just plain stupid... MY11 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - "African Queen"

I think DRLs are dangerous. Too easy for people to forget they have no rear lights on in bad light or bad weather.

On a 10 hour drive from Reading to Scotland a while back the amount of people that were virtually invisible from the rear due to rain/fog was scary. 03 4.4 V8 petrol / lpg. 1st of many hopefully. I love my Rangie

I think DRLs are a menace. A lot of them (including OEM) are poorly installed and can distract oncoming drivers due to their brilliance. I think that they are supposed to either dim or go off when main lights are on but, in quite a few cases they stay on.
I put them in the same league as front fog (posing) lights.
Plod needs to crack down on them! Previous cars:

Leave it on auto and jobs done.
it sorts out the fogs as well as it means they have to turn them back on every time they start the engine.

I've changed mine to the canadian setup with the faultmate as i'd rather run with them all the time, ala bike style as even with the size of the FF i have found 2 people so far who couldnt see me until they were ontop of me. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
