Oh sorry, I didn't mean how the plate is lettered, how I meant is, in the UK a car is given a licence plate when it's first registered when new, that number stays with the car for life so when you change owners you just send the paperwork off and the new owner keeps the same licence plate, but a friend said in Germany you have to remove the licence plate when you sell the car and the new owner has to get a completly new one?, and if you move from say Berlin to Stutgart for example you would also have to change your licence plate to the new city also. |

yep that's it - but on the other side you can choose cool individual plates (you call them private) for an extra of 29 Euros when you change plates, town or car or you don't like yours any more - you just *lose* the plates and you can get new individual ones All my spelling errorz are belong to me!

You can change to private plates here but generally anything that's good tends to be expensive so there are plus sides to the German method, I just thought it seemed a bit of a long winded way of doing things for a Country that has such a reputation for efficency . |

So if you have a "good" plate, can you take it from car to car over time? |

The American system of being able to have all letters would be quite good too. |
