hi all.has anyone had the timing chains replaced and maybe the guides etc on a v8 4.4 ffrr before?recently started getting a rattle noise that i have a horrible feeling could be the dreaded timing chains.indy listened to it and guessed this was the cause of the noise.asked for a ball-park figure and was told the last one they done needed guides and/or shoes.came to £3500.i know it`s a big job involving engine removal and dismantling part of the engine but £3500?sound right to anyone?

If it's the BMW engine it's more likely to be the VANOS rattling - especially if it goes away imediately after start up. Mines been doing that for nearly 100,000 miles now. Still seems OK. |

thanks guys.rattle does not dissappear after warming up.if it was just the rattle i could suffer it because its not that loud,my worry is `if` it is the chains and i leave it,what eventually happens?
