OK - so I thought I'd be clever and change the front pads on Mrs C's Kuga. 10 minute job I say..!

Well it would have been had I not wound the calliper piston the wrong way on one side. This I think resulted in pulling a load of air into the system. Not having any gear and never done it before I asked my local indy to bleed the brakes for me.

He phoned to say he was about to do it but the front pads could also do with changing. Whilst everything was off I though fair enough. £30 odd quid for front pads - no worries

Phoned me just now to say it;s all done but the bleeding took a bit longer than expected.

£220 all in....!!! So £30 odd for the pads and some labour to fit (but not much). So the best part of £200 for bleeding the brakes... Have I been had over..?

Going to buy myself the vacuum brake bleeding kit from Halfords for £35 next time I need it doing. Ash

£30 odd is on the vague side - presumably plus VAT, so likely to be £50

Not sure how much the fluid would be

Plus what could be a few hours labour +VAT

maybe he told you....it was you, who would be bleeding...and it still hurts...

Most main dealers with fixed price servicing on their websites give an approximate cost for a full brae fluid change at at between £50 - £100 so it does seem slightly on the pricey side.
