Starter difficulties

My 2003 RR 3.0TD6 has problems starting. After a few turns from the starter, the motion ends and I just hear a buzzing, slurring noise. After a couple of tries it usually somes round, but this is extremely irritating!
It has 145k km on the clock, and I have changed the front diff, ref earlier posts. Anyone?

Are you sure your battery is still up to the task?

That whirring buzzing noise sounds like the noise made when there's not enough battery power to crank the engine and just the starter spins round.

Or, perhaps the starter is on the way out?

Get the battery checked by someone with the right kit to see how much residual power it has in it. I would guess that's your problem. Discovery 4 HSE

Yeah, I thought of the battery, but that usually makes the starter turn slower/less every time I turn the key.
In this case the starter turns better after a while, and it typically takes approx five minutes and then it suddenly catches and starts great. Have had some noise from the starter earlier, especially when the engine is cold. This came on over night, and I guess it has to be the starter. The garage supplied me with a new one, installing Friday. Will keep you updated.

Well, still not finished at the garage. They had to change some bushings as well. And the they had to replace the steering column, because some Censored at the garage in Spain had pulled its clamps through the holders inside the dashboard. So the steering wheel was loose. I thought it was just the electric adjusting that was off, but no. Loose steering wheel...
Also a lot of hassel recently with the electronics, can't select Sportmode and the display shows "trans. failure prog." They ssaid this wasfixed.

My car will be done tomorrow or friday. Will keep you posted.

Still not finished. Maybe monday/tuesday the say. The local dealer is unbelievably crap so some guys at OEC has it. They all drive LR's so the must be good for something. The figured out the transmission problem was caused by the gearshift motor, due for changing. This is gonna cost. Latest figure about 3000 pounds total.

Well, with the prices in Norway, especially for cars like these you would have opted for repair also.
I bought my Vogue november last year, for 62.000 £. 03 plates, TDV6, 124000km.
It was a bargain. This car costs approx 148.000£ in Norway

Sorry, did not know they were that price Shocked , would it not have been cheaper to get one from the uk and drive it over. i can understand now why you would pay that for repair.

That would have been cheaper, but to register a car in Norway you have to put a norwegian license plate on it, and of course pay the taxes on it, so the amount saved would be marginal and not worth the hassle.
And of course, the steering wheel in your cars are on the other side.
