40k budget, Disco 4 HSE or FFRR Vogue ?

Hi guys, I have read your forum and have found it very informative and value your opinions. Bow down

I'm thinking about jumping ship from my current Disco 3 HSE to a a FFRR or stay with what I know and go for a Disco 4 HSE.

I'm interested in people's opinion either way.
I do around 15k a year so must be a diesel, no more the 3 years old with 50k on the clock and total cost must include a quality 3 year warranty. Budget 40k max.

Think you in advance.
Matthew

We are going to be a bit biased on here I'd imagine, but if you don't need the 7 seats, the range rover is the real deal.

You may feel you've got more for your money if you get a different car, as the Disco 4 may just feel a bit like an update......

Not been in a Disco 4 mind.......

Good luck whatever you decide to do.

Hi and welcome

I have a FF and my business partner has a Disco 4
He loves his D4 but when he gets in mine he thinks its a different level of luxury.

For your 40K you could get a reasonably low mileage MY11. which will be 3 years old. You can get the full landrover warranty for about 1200 quid a year.
I have had a D3 and its such an upgrade its unreal.

I would look for a 4.4TDV8 its an amazing car and returns better fuel economy that your D3.

I'm came from a Disco 3 and the Range Rover is definitely a step up. Whilst the Discovery 4 is a nice car the Range Rover is a far nicer place to be Thumbs Up Present :2008 TDV8 HSE

I have both, though my d4 is a commercial, to be honest they are chalk and cheese, the d4 is a big step up over the d3 in terns of engine, i have the old 2.7 in mine but the 3.0 is much quicker, but the d3/4 guys will be able to tell you more on that, however the ff is much more luxurious, and smooth, but slower witted than the disco handling wise.

Drive both, then buy the ff Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

If you go for the disco there is little chance you'll get one with a 2.7tdv6 in it, it will be the 3.0 sdv6 twin turbo.

Are you going to do any off-roading in it?
Do you ever need 7 seats or happy to tell others they need a taxi?

Economy on both diesels is about the same to be honest unless you really drive like a granny!

The comfort of the ff is great when you do long journeys, the disco isn't bad but an ff is a fair distance from it and I'm speaking from experience of doing a good few miles in both, although mines a much older td6 '05 ff.

If you tow a lot people tend to favour the disco due to the chassis setup but to me the ff can handle the same towing stuff and the bigger brakes on the tdv8's help a bit more on that front Smile

£40k will get you a newer disco but then it will also lose a lot more. The ff won't depreciate as bad as the disco as it will be a bit older for the money but it was a lot more expensive to start with as well.

What points are you comparing them both on? FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Well big thing would be, "Do you need 7 seats?"

After everything the FFRR and SSRR have gone through over the last year or so. I think it's the Disco's turn next. If you're thinking yes to a D4, you may want to wait for the D5. I'm assuming that the D5 will be better (not that the D3&4 aren't excellent cars) and that a new version will drive down prices on older Discos.

When I looked for my FFRR (budget decreed a used one), I looked at a few D3s. The FFRR was a much nicer car, for very little extra $.

I definitely like my FFRR better than by Disco, but she's a 1997 D1 V8! Mr. Green Mind you, the D1 is actually rather nice ( if you're not in a hurry) and is great fun off road where cosmetic damage is a constant danger.

Thanks for the opinions, all very welcome and informative.

The reason for looking at a FF over disco 4 is lower depreciation especially as the Disco 5 is on the horizon.

I no longer tow trailers or have to ferry my girls and their friends around as they have their own cars now Very Happy

The only thing that's holding me back is that we are planing another Europe road trip and worry how comfortable 5 adults will find 3000 miles in three weeks in a FF.

Cheers
Matthew.

rear seats of the ffrr are much more comfortable than those in the Disco (be it D3 or D4). but why do you worry - I'm sure you will be behind the wheel. Mr. Green

the only person who could find it a bit uncomfortable will be the person sitting in the middle (centre) seat.

There speaketh the crApple auto-correct Rolling with laughter

But you're right Craig. I've had both and I love them both equally but for different reasons. The FFRR is more luxurious but the Disco is more practical, and not exactly short on creature comforts.

Vastly superior soundproofing in the FFRR and the TDV8 is a league ahead of the TDV6. But no 7 seats, no ability to carry a double bed (which I've done in the Disco) and the Disco is a better towing machine by a country mile.

Me? Yeah the FFRR every time for sheer opulence though.

It's been a long time since I heard anyone say they were worried about how comfortable a Range Rover is going to be.

Those that have both seem to find the rr more comfortable.

Perhaps you could loan one over a weekend or something if you find one you like and the dealer plays ball ?

As you don't need the 7 seats and are worried about the D5 affecting values, you've possibly answered your own question ?

Have you had a go in a similar car to which you are looking ? I'd take one out even if it was not the right colour etc, just to see how it drove and if you like the experience, rather than that specific car, if you see what I mean. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8
