Big improvement after EGR valve removed

I've fitted the blanking kit finally, having had it for months in its box. There is a noticeable difference now and I can only assume by looking at the valve I took off, that it was u/s.

The car picks up quicker now, accelerates better, pulls through the 50-70 section better. MPG is around 21 around town. It had dropped to 17 and no matter how soft I drove it, I couldn't get it back to the 20's.

Might get a mild remap done now!

Start to finish with no interruptions, I reckon it'll take anyone with average ability half and hour tops.

It's only 4 bolts holding it on. It's just removing the covers to access it that add to the time.

@Andy, this mod is one of the few that actually does make a difference..it allows cool air in which makes the engine run better... ... - .- -.

Can this definitely not be done on the TDV8?

There seems to be conflicting stories as to wether it can or can't........... Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue
Had- 2008 TDV8 Vogue SE in Java black
Had - 2007 S/C in Stornoway Grey

I bought it off eBay. The company name escapes me at the moment. I'll do a bit of digging later and find out

why dont people just pull the vacum hose off the EGR body and bung/ plug it, then the EGR does not operate and cool air flows into the inlet manifold. thats what i did to mine and it took 15 seconds, no removal of covers, just a cheapo interior screw i had lying around my nut and bolt tin.

Pulling the vacuum hose off and plugging it is fine but how do you know the egr valve is closed to the gas recirculation port?
Without checking beforehand for all you know the valve is stuck open to the recirculation port and therefore removing the vacuum hose does nothing, exhaust gases are still going into the inlet manifold.

if its jammed open, then surely a fault would show on OBC.

if you suspect it maybe stuck, you could undo the one clip holding the intercooler pipe onto the EGR body and peek inside. squeeze it back down with flat head screw driver. add an extra 10mins

The egr valve on a TD6 is a mechanical device only with no electrical input/output which is why it can be removed in the first place, its performance can't be monitored with a diagnostic tool.
As for checking the internals and levering the valve into the closed position, have you ever seen the inside of one of these valves that's been on a car for a few miles? I shall leave that to you. Thumbs Up Very Happy
I honestly think for the cost and time involved in replacing the egr valve and so getting a definite result, doing the job properly is the only way to go.
Replacing the valve also has the additional benefit of ensuring a clear path for the inlet air flow not restricted by the valve mechanism and build up of carbon/oil deposits.
