How long 'til battery drain?

Evening Folks,

I used to have a Grand Cherokee which if left in a long stay car park for two weeks with the alarms fully set the battery would be flat on return. I got over this by disabling the internal sensors. My question is. Do I need to do the same with my 2006 FFRR?

Sorry chaps there is in good answer to this. If everything is working as it should then it will last for way over 2weeks.

However if there is a bit of a drain from something not shutting down properly, or if the battery is goosed through age/flattening/faulty alternator then the time it will last will be a lot shorter.

If you are worried the why not invest in a solar charger, plug it into the fag lighter and it will top up the battery whilst the car is standing Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Should the car not "go to sleep" as it were, after a day or so, leaving minimum systems alive ?

That's my understanding.

Like others suggest, it should last a couple of weeks. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

My solar panel wont do any charging in the front fag lighter only when i connect it to the rear boot charger does it charge.

Just to expand on this, if you have a 020 battery, about 100Ah, this will last for 83 days until fully discharged. Doing that would kill the battery so I would recommend a reasonable safe limit of 50% capacity, so about 5-6 weeks of no use should be fine and I would consider a reasonable maximum before a charge.

If you are not confident about your battery staying the course when away there is a way round this which might be of use.

Fit a battery isolating switch between the Battery -ve terminal and the car body earth and switch the battery off when you leave the car.
You will of course need to lock the car manually with the key and you will have no alarm/immobiliser function for the duration.

If you wish to have the central locking and alarm/immobiliser working while you are away you can fit a second temporary battery to the car whilst you are away by simply having a 50-60AH (or more) battery with a fused lead on terminating in a accessory plug.

When leaving the car, switch off the main vehicle battery and plug the second temporary battery into any accessory socket that is live when the ignition is off. This battery will then allow the car to go to sleep normally including alarm/immobiliser and allow central locking to work when you get back to the car.

This of course assumes your car has no excessive battery drain. Depending on battery drain the temporary battery may or may not fully discharge but this is no worse than your main vehicle battery discharging as normal. You would of course be able to start the car by opening with the key and then switching the main vehicle battery back on.

I've tried this set-up, it works. Thumbs Up

Why not just have the second battery in the boot and use it to jump start the car if the fitted battery is flat.
