2012 Bumpers, 2002 lights?

Hi All,

Does anyone know if its possible to fit the 2012 front bumper and keep the original 2002 lights? Are the light units the same overall size?

I've bought a pair of 2012 bumpers which have been painted and are ready to go on, but until I find a solution for the adaptive headlight issue I'm not shedding out £1000 for a pair of headlights that will only partly function!?

I know it'll look a little strange for the time being, but everything will be functional Smile

Matt

United Kingdom

you need 2012 headlight units, the 2002 ones wont fit...and its just a matter of bolting on the newer bumper theres lots more involved....do a search and you will see..

The 2002-2005 headlights are taller than any of its successors. The bumpers are in turn deeper on later models to compensate for the smaller headlights.
In other words, if you try and fit the bumper, you'll find the upper section of it will probably cover a third of the headlight- if it even bolts on in the first place.

Thanks for the info chaps. Looks like I'll need to raid the piggy bank for some lights before too long!?

I have spoken to an electronics expert I know, who thinks it may be possible to build a gateway between the BMW iBus adaptive headlight output, and the later CAN bus input. He's going to put me in contact with someone he knows that works at a company that may be interested in doing it. Here's hoping!
