Cheapish oil and filter change.

Discovered a cheapish way of doing a 6000 mile oil change on a tdv8.

Buy your own oil! And then get the dealership to do the change! They originally quoted me about £220 for the privelidge.
Can I bring my own oil I asked. Yes of course you can, no problems with that, it needs to be was-mcc-913-b

Price for labour and filter £69.
Price for 10 litres of shell helix ultra professional af from Ecp £58

So they charged roughly £55 for the swap given the filter is a few quids. Which to be honest is better than lying under the car getting a face full of oil! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

oil

do you have to be under them to do the oil and filter change?
i am very much a fan of vacuum extracting the oil for a normal service[sometimes get more out too...]
but yes if its cheap enoiugh getting somebody else to do is a good idea lol

That's daft Craig, how hard would it have been to put a drain plug on it! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

There is one but its so close to the subframe you can't drain the oil without an 8ft spread of oil EVERYWHERE!!!

We tend to suck um out then remove the last bit with the drain bung Thumbs Up gets any crud out of the bottom too Thumbs Up LR dealers DONT remove the drain bung at all and just refill with the same amount that their machine takes out! Shocked Shocked Shocked

NOT GOOD practice imho Rolling Eyes

oil

a lot of modern cars-pd vag mitsi 4g63[modernish] for example allow more to be sucked out than can be drained due to design...i used to be an advocate of "dropping it" but the vacuum removes most debris-and when in doubt about condition the sump would be coming off anyway to check strainer etc

Mind me asking where you stick the pipe Craig? Given it's an electronic dipstick (well my 5.0 is and so is Wifey's XF) where do you suck it out from?
