Depends on where you get your warranty from.

A LR approved used warranty (which can't be purchased after it has been left to expire) is about £1400 a year.

I've never bothered, and if anything came up I just paid for it. I reckon its cheaper in the long run. Discovery 4 HSE

Its a proper land rover warranty and i pay £85.50 by direct debit monthly, but is cheaper if you pay for a full year outright. Its due to expire in dec 14 and covers £750 worth of mot cover too.

Just checked with land rover on friday and they recommend cancelling the warranty when i sell the car and assuming the new owner renews before she hits the 100k miles, they can take another full year of warranty taking the cover well into 2015. This can be done over the phone or by visiting any land rover dealer. They also confirmed that cover does not have to be continuos to be renewed and can lapse then renewed again, as long as the car has FLRSH and is less than 10yrs old and under 100k miles.
