supercharged rear bulb replacement

following on from replacing my rear clear s/c indicator bulbs with cree bulbs and encouraged by pld118 efforts, i today replaced my OE bulbs with cheap smds and although the fog is slightly dimmer than OE ,these smds give a more redder uniformed light..

not very good pics due to the camera focusing on the outside of the lense rather than the bulb but you get the idea..pics taken when it was bright during the day..

Snap!

My replacement for the 1 broken LED bulb arrived this afternoon Stan and so I filed down the lower bayonet pin, fitted it with ease and took a video clip in the dark showing... the car first in darkness, followed by the aftermarket LED tail light bulbs coming on, then the aftermarket rear fog LED bulbs, then the aftermarket LED indicator bulbs and whilst the indicators were on, the OE LED brake lights were put on.

Delighted with the results (sad but true/ simple things and all that). It's taken a while to source all of the correct bulbs etc but it all looks spot on Thumbs Up

This is a still image of the rear tail/ fog bulbs close up in the dark (you can see the SMD are a bit different to yours):

Thanks. They are superb... The LED tail/fog bulbs are quite well made but can be fragile bulbs at the point of fitting ('mine' are anyway) but once you live and learn as to how to handle these particular bulbs at the point of fitting them; and having acquired tips of the trade on how to file/tweak the bayonet pins when required, the results are more than pleasing.

So the car now has crisp, modern, consistent depth/ enhanced safety LED bulb lighting and all within the stock original lighting units, therefore could never be accused of being pimped or similar.

And... I must say that HQ Auto Lighting on eBay have been first class. I've bought more than just these tail/fog bulbs from them and not only will they accept reduced offers when you want bulbs, they are prompt, courteous, always reply the same day to emails and send replacements without quibble provided you return any damaged goods (a great find by Prop of this forum who has also been extremely helpful and knowledgeable about all things RR LED bulbs). I've fitted 4 tail/fog LEDs (obviously) but before today, 5 such bulbs got damaged when I tried to fit them and in each instance they sent me new ones without charge.

Thumbs Up

Good depth Stan Thumbs Up

Does the (lower of the 2) fog bulb work fine?

Or are the OE tail bulbs so poor hence the OE fog looks brighter whereas the car is now visible with the LED tail such that it's less noteworthy when the LED fog comes on

I do know what you mean Stan but knowing what I've now seen, the OE tail bulbs are not crisp enough and no where near effective enough... imo anyway

Looks very nice. Did I see somewhere that you had done the indicators as well (searched but can find link) Is there a link to get all the correct bulbs from one place? Am I correct in understanding that you have to file a pin off each bulb to make it fit the FFRR. There is a difference between knowing your sh!t and knowing you're sh!t

they dont make red smd bulbs with the correct pin config for the clear s/c units so hence the 'adaptation' of standard smd bulbs, its just a matter of filing one of the pins so you get a friction fit rather than a 'click in the socket' type..

^^ my thoughts exactly Ryan...the new smd bulbs are brighter so the progress in light output to fog is smaller..anyway i cant remember the last time i used fogs...

@rej - Re your queries on bulbs.

You have a PM.

Also, I've changed/ upgraded the front sidelight bulbs, full beam headlight bulbs, front and rear indicator bulbs, side repeater bulbs and the rear/ tail fog bulbs. All are error free on our Supercharged L322. All are plug and play. The only bulbs that needed to be tweaked/ pins filed were the 4 x rear fog/ tail bulbs which required one pin on each bulb to be filed - as Stan has said - and which is seconds of a job.

So as not to hijack Stan's post here, please find this link which details the upgrades I've done/ how my decisions were made. On that thread I've edited the start of the post to summarise exactly the bulbs I've bought for ease of reading:

Thumbs Up
