"Key in ignition" warning.

Have any of you guys heard about the fix to stop the annoying "bong" when you open the door with the key in the ignition? When I'm tinkering with stuff on the car and I want the ignition on, doors open but the engine off, it drives me mad!!

Had my car plugged into diagnostics today and the "key in ignition" was showing as 'disabled' but it's still bonging away for some reason.

The guy in the garage said he'd heard of a cheat to disable it - he thought it might involve putting the handbrake on and off or something?!

I'm guessing it's like the "click seatbelt in and out 9 times" to turn that warning bong off.

Any ideas? Question Past (too many to list, but a few favs)...

You know .....

Mine doesn't do that - it had not occurred to me when I had the key in the ignition and the door open earlier!

I'll see what my CCF says Smile

In fact - my seatbelt alerts are all off too (bar the light on the dash) Land Rover Addict

Try enabling and disabling it again, If I remember correctly RSW All comms use to be able to do this, however I believe it was removed in the recent software updates. Mad

As your original post was some time ago, I just wondered if you had managed to find a way to deactivate the ignition key warning? I agree with you, this is a very irritating and unwanted feature which I noticed as soon as I took delivery of the car more than two years ago.

My understanding is that this 'improvement' is the result of an EEC initiative, but on my vehicle the warning only works when the vehicle is stationary and is as quiet as a church mouse if the doors are opened when the vehicle is moving, which to me seems rather more dangerous.

I have asked the dealer a couple of times, who is unable to help.

That's great news and thanks for the information. Does anyone know of a good technician to take it too who will have the new IID diagnostics tool?
