Cubby box gas strut removal

I am trying to swap the oddments tray for the piece that is molded to take the phone holder. It has a hole in it which the gas strut for the cubby box lid passes through. How do I undo the strut at one end to fit this on?

Am I going to have to take half the centre console apart?

Cheers,
Mike

hi mike, been here and done it when i was fitting the blue tooth..went and bought the pin so i could see what way it did come out. what you need is an automatic centre punch , use it on the end closes to the passenger 1 or 2 clicks and it will fly out, don't tap it with a hammer as the holder is only cast alloy and can break..
as your are sitting in the driver seat, look at the pin, it comes out on the left , so if you pushed it out it would be going towards the drives seat.
have i made that clear...

Ok, so it just presses out. Have some thing that might work for that. Thanks,

Presume it just pushes back in with a bit of effort?
