Salisbury Plain - MOD Fencing

Don't know if people are already aware of this, but recently the MOD have fenced off Salisbury Plain between the Vedettes that run alongside the Ridgeway between West Lavington and towards Netheravon.

This apparently has been done to stop people 'picking up' ordnance - like you would! Prior to this there was a strip of land that went roughly 30-40 meters in from the Ridgeway which left the tank tracks open. The fencing is now about 1 meter away from the edge of the Ridgeway so it is not possible to drive anywhere apart from on the Ridgeway.

Might be worth looking into before another day on Salisbury Plain is organised.

I'm not sure about that area, but I suspect not! My wife was in a Village Committee meeting about 12 months ago and there were some Army bods there when all this fencing off of the impact area was mooted.

I think their Lawyers must have been concerned about injury claims, so closed it off for everyone! Its affected the RA Hunt as well as even they are not allowed to use the Plain now!

I have a feeling that the whole of the Impact Area will now be fenced off in areas where they used to display red flags, but they have land grabbed right up to the Ridgeway!

Errm, No! But then again its typical of the com-pen-say-shun culture in the UK at the moment, that anything that involves the slightest bit of 'fun' and recreation is frowned upon.

I'm not sure who would be the best people to contact re access to the Plain, I'll see if I can get an address or email for the MOD from my wife.
