CYCLE RACK aargh.

Ok.

Stan will probably move this to touring but no one looks there so......

I need to get 2 bikes on the car for tomorrows trip to france, note tomorrow......... Whistle

as they say pi** poor planning leads to pi** poor performance Big Cry

I could get some thule roof bars and put them on there as i have a couple of roof bar carriers, we are in the high tunnel with the caravan anyway, but that could be expensive by the time ive bought the foot pack and the bars.

Q1. has the car got universal fixpoints or do i need the clamp round the door frame type.

Q2. Or i could get one of the rear mounted cycle carriers which attache to the boot.... do they fit. Halfords have one in stock at £60 obvioulsy it will foul the wash wipe but has anyone used this type with any degree of success?

all cos swmbo wants to take a bike she wont ride........

and no they cant go in the van as that full of Censored already.

come on boys gimme your best, honest, truthful and downright sexy advice here..... Bow down Bow down There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I have just used the halfords high mounted rear cycle carrier to carry two mountain bikes (can take 3) towing the caravan on the back and worked a treat - so long as you dont need access to the boot at any point during the journey. Was a bit of a fiddle to get it on (you need to use the dumb bell things for the side straps as the RR has a top tailgate is all glass) but once you know what your doing was fine. Plenty space between to get at the tow hitch and jockey wheel with the high mounted one as well. Think it was on offer at £59.99, they were in short supply last month and I had to order it.

NMJ, If you have a tow bar and can swing by J18 of the M4 you can borrow mine (its the square hole mounted in the tow bar with the 2 prongs - cow horns facing backwards.

Thumbs Up

Been out and got one of the £60 halfrauds ones.

I have fitted it slightly lower with the bottom bar resting on the bumper, when fitted like this the top straps with the dumbells will go over the top and the side straps fit onto the metal part of the upper tailgate.

Seems to fit well. Will have to check the clearance when turning a tight corner as i have to get on the tunnel with it on. I have got 2 bikes on it. And everything looks secure and ready to go. My boot was deliberately loaded with only stuff which will come out when we arrive!

Bargain!

I looked into a roof rack at halfrauds and the kit was about £140, Thud but you do need the door mounting brackets, the fixpoints on the roof have quite a large bolt thread and without going through all of the fixpoints thule make there is no way of knowing which would do the job though im sure there would be one. BUT the door aperture kit is an order only item. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Don't be daft!!! You have a caravan! Strap them down in the caravan well and as long as they are clean and covered you'll be fine with them in the back and less messing around as well Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

I hear what you are saying, but we use our van whilst travelling, as somewhere to stop and eat, or have a rest in at services.

Plus the van has already reached its max payload, probably over slightly, so cant really put another 30kg of tack in it. I think that the rack will work fine, just have to test the turning circle.

Excited about hols now, just go to go and make sure that carillion, who are working on the negbouring railay line havent blocked my drive so i cant get my van out. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Looks like a good solution - I have an official rack like Dolphinboys and also a MaxxRaxx one and don't think wither would have fitted - they both hold the bikes further from the car and that nose bar looks quite short so not much space there.

The official one leaves enough room to open the lower tailgate, then holds the bikes behind that !

Clearance is fine, managed to reverse almost to a jacknife position with no problems.

Sitting on the tunnel at the moment. Was a bit nervous about getting the van on but it was really easy in reality, jut have to pretty much drive across the train and then swing back in Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Thumbs Up Tunnel is great - I find it by far the easiest way to cross the channel especially when towing

Too late now, but in answer to your first question, the FFRR gas fixed points for the official roof bars - but means they only cover 2/3 of the roof. The Thule feet wrap under the door frames, so the bars themselves are about as wide as the car.
