I've got a Hymer motorhome, 2.5 turbo diesel with an LPG conversion. The only difference i can feel with it turned on is when going up a steepish hill, and even then it's only a very slight difference

And it does feel slightly smoother, but whether it actually is or it's in my mind is hard to say .
And i've barely noticed any fuel saving costs. My Hymner came with the conversion already in place, but i doubt i'd pay to have to added.


My V8 4.4 FF is also LPG. But petrol/LPG is a completely different kettle of fish. It's either on or off, unlike the diesel/LPG which is simply added LPG to the diesel.

The Americans are into this on their big diesel utes, its known as fumigation
From what I have read they use it to give as boost like NOS.
Sounds like Steppers unit isnt set up for this though.

I've not heard of this. Does this give you the economy of diesel with the fuel price of the LPG? That sounds almost too good to be true.

Not quite.
I am assuming that the amount of diesel burnt remains the same but when you hoof it it gives a burst of LPG which cleans the emissions and gives an extra power boost.

I know a haulage company that use it on their 44 tonners and it saves them a fortune... So it must be an economy thing too

That said, i had a mate with LPG on a TD5 Defender, using it like NOS and they had it up to a ridiculous HP before going too far

The way I understand it on the diesel engine is that a small amount gives a really clean burn. I had the speel from a salesman a few years ago, Im sure it was along the lines that up to 15 percent of diesel can go unburnt and the lpg gives total burn hence more power so your lighter on the right pedal The figures may be wrong but that was the jist of it, the thing that surprised me was the tanks for trucks were tiny they say very small amounts were needed as you are not running on it as such.

Thought i'd best fill my engine LPG tank on my diesel motorhome last year after a few hundred miles as the four lights on the fuel gauge were showing only two lit, so about half full, and it only needed £4.50 worth of LPG.

The other benefit for me, being as it's an older 3.5 ton diesel vehicle and i live in London is i'm exempt from the london emmissions exclusion zone as my motorhome is registered as a duel fuel vehicle.
