How do you value a private plate?

Hi,

Just wondered how people accurately value private/ cherished plates. Aside to the 'only what someone is prepared to pay for it' logic, is there formula that can be loosely applied or any website that gives reasonable advice?

Thanks

Less number or letters make it more valuable.
To some cultures certain letters or numbers are desireable ( Far east like no 8 as its lucky)
If it spells something without to much fiddling like Paul Daniels has one that nearly reads Magic or LRO, FF some spell names L33 good for Lee etc.
After that its down to personal choice I think. Mine works quite well I was after my initials AJP which used to be the area code for mersyside so was after one with that on and a minimum of other numbers or letters when I found P13AVN my surname is Pleavin so that works well and was the cheapest of the cheap at the DVLA.

Unless someone knows better? Mine was a blue one! Smile

Probably worth looking at the sold prices on the DVLA auction site too to give you an idea of what similar plates have sold for, unfortunately if the plate you want is with a dealer prices cold be double what the DVLA plates go for. 2021 P400 Silicon Silver AB

My Advice is to go for this format with something relevant as it looks good and is dirt cheap:

A1 RRV

V3 GTF

N9 TWA

I like dateless plates and have OLE 184 on my classic. Doesn't mean anything to me but was cheap (Fitted the criteria which was 3 letters + 3 numbers for <500 quid) Regards

The less numbers and letters the better and a number 1 is always going to be desirable.

My partner bought his car which came with a short private plate which I will transfer onto the RR to make it look that bit better than standard 7 digit plate.

I have another plate on retention which was a DVLA cheapy (£250) for my business but it looked fab on my signwritten car and added to the overall effect. 2011 4.4 TDV8 Autobiography

I have D1 RMD and paid £1000 for it. Got my son DE11 SLE for £250. Our surname is Delisle so cheap but would mean nothing to anyone unless they know us. [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]

I stupidly retracted a bid on eBay for A13 GUY Big Cry I was seconds from winning it...

It was only £500. If I had it now on a FF , could have looked like AB GUY,
So would have had to upgrade my car to an Autobiography edition Razz Alcohol and eBay is never a good mix

I have RIB 16 (RI B16 for RI - my initials, and BIG) £1,400 15 years ago

B3EEE - self explanatory £900 9 years ago (last value £4k)

MBZ 5897 (Mercedes Benz) for an old Merc car owner £900

NXI 579 (Nicky ?) never managed to get this valued

we make number plates and you'd be surprised at the amount that some pay for 'worthless' plates which mean something only to them

then sometimes a customer picks up a bargain from DVLA.

This one was £450
