DPF is truly a pain and a limitation and I had considered removal. The threat of a hefty fine is just one aspect of this European dictate.

Whether the fine is ever applied or not, the issue surely is passing the MOT test. Failure = No Cert. (or computer flag) = no road tax = no legal road use and a devalued vehicle.

Expect issues with your insurance provider in the event of even an average claim. There is always the possibility the insurer investigates and may question why your vehicle '..has been modified..'. Any excuse to dodge out of a claim of course.

Well I doubt anyone who has gone through removal has actually informed their insurance company, but please let me know if they did and what was the outcome.

I think I will go petrol next time and avoid this dpf hassle. Big Cry

Its been coming for a while but as we now, if you take it off and cut it open from the top, take the guts out and weld it back up they would never know, or bash the guts out and it will still pass as its just a visual check they perform Smile

Diesels only get a smoke test as well, and soot around the exhaust happens even with a DPF as they just use excessive fuel to bring it upto temp and burn the stuff out anyway Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

As the DPF is there to trap the soot there should be none evident when the exhaust gas is tested.

Anyone believing the "experts" on the internet and remove their DPF filter thinking it will never be detected do so at their own risk.

TBH the safest way to do this is to knock the guts out of it as then it looks perfect from the outside.

The soot test isn't exactly hard to pass on a good engine that has been warmed a little before going in.

The easier way to avoid it i have seen in the past is to restrict the rev limit, something easier to do these days with the injection ECU controlling it Smile If you knock it down to 2k revs how could they fail it, a lot of cars wont let the engine rev highly these days when they are stood still so another way to help as it wont be pushing much air through the turbo and the engine in general so fuelling will not be a massive amount going into the engine.

A service before the MOT often helps as well as the cars get older.

With the EGR whats to stop you fitting a blanking plate but leaving the EGR in there? It could still try and open and close but if the exhaust cant get through it it doesnt matter and blank would look like a metal gasket if done right Smile

EGR's are just a way to waste fuel. they let them pass the emissions test but then when they autoclean i bet they wouldn't pass an MOT during that phase of the cycle! try being behind a Toyota T180 thats cleaning its D-CAT out and you'll thing the engine has let go FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Flew the MOT easily and emissions were low no advices and commented on one of the cleanest he'd seen so was chuffed, I made him try it and he couldn't believe how quick and responsive it was he has a twin turbo X5 and it shocked him, I've tried a few and it Censored all over them and the even v8 diesel gave a good run and not that slower trust me and still does 24 mpg so really chuffed with it a keeper for a long time hopefully Smile _____________________________________________________
