France 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Atacama Sand
DPF issue

Good morning,

First post of full fat!! Was a regular user of the rrsport forum but after almost 9 years and two sports, I've swap to a 2011 Range Rover Vogue 4.4TDV8 last week Cool

And I must say I love it! My last full fat before the sports was a P38, what a change!

Now, I hav been driving for a week now with it and yesterday morning, going to work, got the dpf full message coming up (orange)... Going back home in the evening, it almost went straight to the red warning (dealer visit) without giving me a chance to reach a highway (living in London).... I have left the car parked for a couple of hours and then took me t to go on the highway but when I started, no more error message. I still went for the drive anyway, 30 minutes round trip.

Does the dpf full happen often? It's my first car with this system...

Also, anyone as seen this tool http://www.diagnostic-associates.com/colle...ion-device

As I do a lot of city driving, does anyone think its worth to buy?
Thanks!

Hi Jimmy, welcome abord!

Sorry you had to waste 9 years before becoming a FF member ( just jocking Wink )

I would recommand the IID Tool instead as it offer MUCH more than the limited tool you mentionned.

Please see the links below about the DPF, but in a nutshell, drive it for an hour a bit high in rev and this should sort it out BUT DPF equiped vehicles do not like small trips indeed. [[EDIT: SEE LR's recommanded solution below in Craig's message]]

The ideal recommended action surprisingly enough is to set cruise control at 55mph only! And as we all know with the 8 speed box, thats around tick over level Shocked

But thats what the boffins at LR recommend! & it seems to work best... Thumbs Up

Jimmy, quick note sir... If the DPF goes to orange again? Drive the car as a matter of some urgency, as suggested above! As the light soon turns to RED and more often than not the DPF will need replacing at the dealers! VERY EXPENSIVE!!!

How long is a piece of string Jimmy? Mine came on whilst i was not using the car (just moving it around here) and it went to red in 5 or 6 engine starts! So a fine line between orange & red light i think... Rolling Eyes

The problem is the DPF coding requires a set rev range for a long period of time Sad
Lots of others cars suffer the same engine but the above tends to clear them out.
Failing that before it gets bad remove the unit, spray oven foam cleaner down it and then jet wash the thing out.
Stick it back on and more often than not issue is resolved as the ECU then sees the DPF soot/Clog % as a lot lower and is happy again! FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
