Normally the paintwork is fairly robust, barring the wheel arches at the rear. I would report this to your local MD as soon as possible and get it repaired.

LR has a 6 year anti corrosion warranty, so the pitting and corrosion around the rule filler should be sorted under warranty, as you have a 2010MY, Not too sure what has happened where the rear spoiler and roof don't match up, however I would try and get LR to sort that too whilst they are repairing the corrosion to the filler. Don't go and try to rectify it yourself, they will most likely test paint thickness etc to check for poorly repaired accident damage, so keep it original, take pics, go complain!

Find out if your local MD has a body shop or not, ours doesn't so the reports go to LR from a very flashy body shop called Chartwells (bentleys, ferraris etc) and they are separate from LR so really are more interested in getting the work, so more likely to report in your favour! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Shouldn't matter either way, the corrosion warranty is 6 years from date of delivery/purchase by the original owner, irrespective of how many times it is sold on and by whom.

Has it got a full LR service book? Sometimes they will ask to see the corrosion inspections from the services but tbh its unlikely and its worth a shot, I am having the entire boot assembly replaced on mine next week, 57 plate, FOC, and they haven't asked me for anything, and it was only a tiny teeny bit of rust.

Ask your local MD which body shop they use and see if you can take it direct to the body shop to have a look at There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Check your service booklet as when the car is serviced there are entries meant to be filled in to confirm that paintwork inspections were done. If not done, this might be a reason for a paint warranty claim to be rejected.

Edit - hadn't seen NMJ reply Thumbs Up

It had that last year by a LR MD but the supplying dealer this time just stamped the left hand column, if done last year will that be sufficient? I don't think my local MD has a bodyshop so will call them on Monday and see who they use.

there is a corrosion check on the maintenance schedule so if its been serviced by a MD then they would have checked it.... ... - .- -.

I wouldn't mention it to the body shop or the dealer let them make their own assessment and submit the report to landrover. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

The type of questions your post raises for me (apologies if I've got the wrong end of the stick) are:

Has the car been in 'a bump' or had a new parts/ paintwork, hence the reason for the 2 differing colours and the oxidisation near the fuel filler?

How many keepers has the car had?

Could you not:
Contact the servicing main dealers who have worked on the car; and/or

Contact the prev keeper; or

Get the selling dealer to contact the last keeper (e.g if only 1 previous owner), all of these sources being people who between them should be able to answer these simple questions such as has the car had paintwork done around the fuel filler and/or the roof spolier/ has it had a new spoiler and if so, why was that and who did the work?

It shouldn't be difficult to get the continiuty on such a new car and then you might have options for repair and resolution that might include:
LR warranty claims; or

If resulting from work done done by non LR but within some warranty period for that work, you could ask whomever did it to make good; or

You've only just got the car and whilst it could be argued that you had the chance to 'spot' these issues before buying, you've paid a lot of money for a car that has issues in need of rectification and they appear to have pre-existed before you bought. Your selling dealer might say you should have raised these issues before buying but on the other hand might be sympathetic and prepared to rectify these issues.

Just some thoughts.
Thumbs Up

Hi, thanks for the comments. I will trace the history of the car through dealer network and the 2 owners. I haven't got the logbook yet so will do it once that arrives.

I washed it this afternoon and can see iron spots in hard to reach places so think the supplying dealer probably had the main body machine polished to remove as much as possible, hopefully not doing the spoiler which is now a little less white than the rest of the car.

I washed inside the filler cap and the spots are surface so will have it checked so its on record with LR then remove them and keep a close eye on it short term whilst LR consider their response.

The car has has a small paint repair in the passenger side corner of the rear bumper as I have found a fine paint line in the seal between bumper and body, but that's all I have found.

Well, if all of the oxidisation comes off, Iron X does claim to remove contaminants and prevent further damage to paintwork by stopping the spread Thumbs Up

** Iron X is not supposed to be used on areas of paintwork that has had a smart repair.

Thumbs Up
