England 2005 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Java Black
Sheffield Prestige

During the journey to visit my daughter in Sheffield "Air Susp Inactive" appeared and suspension locked. This had happened a few times recently and cleared itself within a few miles - and I have recently had a (fairly) local indie. LR specialist hook up diagnostics and they told me it was showing front driver side height sensor problem, cleared fault, and said may need new sensor if happened again. Also the steering was screeching when turning right at low speed.
Son in law in Sheffield had heard of an Independent JLR specialist in Sheffield and after quick google we found them - Sheffield Prestige (Little London Road).
I called them explaining problem and although busy they said I could take my fullfat and leave it with them and they would deal with it when they could. They quoted £66 diagnostics and stated labour is charged at £66 per hour.
This I did - explaining the history and saying I expected it needed new height sensor, and possible steering joint replacement- and that I planned to be in Sheffield for five days and needed the car back before then.
They called the following day as promised having both put on diagnostics and physically checked suspension system. Diagnostics fault showed front sensor giving "invalid" message - no direct fault with height sensor itself or circuitry to or from sensor - and suspension struts were showing ridiculous amount of play.

Their opinion was suspension struts "flapping about" (my numpty no-knowledge words not theirs) was producing "invalid" data to sensor and it was therefore a physical/mechanical problem which would only be verified by replacing suspension struts and they would hold off replacing height sensor as it may well be unnecessary. Gave me quote for proposed work.

I gave go ahead for replacing suspension struts followed by full realignment.

They called at end of next day - car ready.

I went to pick up - they were keen to show me worn struts that had been replaced and went through the job with me again explaining that they were pretty sure that there is no fault with the height sensor itself.
The invoice was exactly as they had quoted.

Now back in Scotland - Car driving well - Suspension fine - Steering Fine - No Fault messages.

Superb service. Courteous, knowledgeable trained technicians.

Wish they were closer to me!

Thinking I might schedule service and maintenance of my FF to coincide with visiting daughter in Sheffield!

Visits might be more frequent anyway for another reason which has nothing to do with car.

We were visiting my daughter who has had a problematical pregnancy and the day after we arrived (and car just in at Prestige) our grandson arrives 10 weeks early!!!!!

Emergency C-Section and Baby Albert arrives very small (3lbs 1oz) but healthy!!!!!

Baby, mother, very proud grandparents (our first grandchild) anf FFRR all doing well!!!!!
Tim

its a pleasant experience when the garage takes an interest in your vehicle and goes out of the way to explain things....

I have been using Sheffield Prestige for about 12 months now, and have found their service and attention to detail second to none.

When I first went there, they commented on how nice my car looked.

I booked it in this dinner to have my annual service done and the rear wiper motor replaced.

They have a nice Jaguar courtesy car and I know my car will be looked after.

I am always kept informed of what is happening with any repair work. They even deal with my warranty company for me.

Faultless service. I've even paid to have my car recovered on a low loader and taken there rather than a garage within a few hundred yards of work.......

To be honest, its refreshing to deal with a company who cares. It might be just another car in there to be worked on, but it belongs to me. they get that.

5 stars from me...........

Good to read good reports of local garages Thumbs Up
SWMBO came home from Meadowhell the other night and gave me a nice flyer that had been tucked under the windscreen wiper.
It was for these guys and I was wondering what they were like Question

Oh and you're right, a decent garage is worth travelling for. I do the same now I've found a good place.
